Summary

  • Khun Aguero leads Team Sweet and Sour for the Workshop Battle after a month of grueling training.
  • Team Sweet and Sour passes the final test for entry, overcoming doubts about their abilities.
  • FUG-sponsored Viole's team also prepares for the battle, with new characters teased for the Workshop Battle.

The 13th and final episode of Tower of God's Return of the Prince arc was a set up for the upcoming Workshop Battle arc, which is being teased as an action-packed affair in which the Twenty-Fifth-Bam, whom we've followed throughout this season as "FUG Slayer Candidate Jue Viole Grace" as he developed a relationship with Ja Wangnan and the other members of Team Sweet and Sour, has now been forced to band together with agents of FUG. On the other hand, Khun Aguero Agnes, whose team was annihilated by FUG and even had an attempt made on his life, now leads the team that Bam carried for almost two years.

With various humorous moments and a good set-up of the arc to come, this was a rather enjoyable episode from a second season that has had its interesting story marred by some flashes of promising, but ultimately disappointing visuals. Can Aguero lead this team to a historic win over the many other powerful teams who'll be at the Workshop Battle?

Anime and Video Game References in Tower of God

Tower of God takes inspiration from plenty of different series. Here are some references to famous anime and games in the series thus far.

Ja Wangnan Was Apprehensive at First

"Team Sweet and Sour in Advanced Stages of Aguero Loan Talks"

Khun Aguero Signs Loan Deal With Team Sweet and Sour – Tower of God Season 2 Episode 13

After talking to Hwaryun and learning a little about Bam's situation, Aguero makes the decision to join Team Sweet and Sour, but Ja Wangnan wasn't very happy with it at first, especially with how Aguero talked about it like it was a done deal. Ja Wangnan's apprehension stems partly from a lack of confidence in the abilities of the team, and the fact that he has no real idea of Aguero's intentions. After the two have a brief conversation, they come to the understanding that they're both friends of Viole/Bam, and only want to be reunited with him and protect him from FUG.

Realizing that their desires are aligned and brought together by their friendship with Viole/Bam, Ja Wangnan and Aguero shake hands, with the latter confidently stating that he can lead Team Sweet and Sour to victory at the Workshop Battle taking place in a month's time. Aguero's confidence in the fact that the team will take him on, is well understood by the Sweet and Sour members, but they still find a way to make fun of him for it, which was one of a few humorous moments in this episode of Tower of God that made it more enjoyable. But it is also very important to note that even at this late stage, we know very little about the characters we've spent the most time with this season.

Khun's Grueling Training Begins

Team Sweet and Sour Pass The Test

Team Sweet and Sour – Tower of God Season 2 Episode 13

The only thing standing between Team Sweet and Sour and their entry to the Workshop Battle is one last test. If they pass, they gain access to the 30th Floor of the Tower, where the Workshop Battle is held. Khun trains them non-stop for a whole month, and in that time, Dan recovers enough from his injuries to be able to move around, and he can walk. For Ja Wangnan and the rest, the main worry is if they'll be able to put up a fight without their main offensive force made up of Viole and Ilmar; but for Khun, the test is a challenge because, up to this point, he has only ever been on a team with extremely capable individuals. Khun gives the team a well-needed rest the day before the test, but the nerves cause pretty much all of Team Sweet and Sour to stay up all night to train some more. The day of the test, they're exhausted, but get to take a nap on the ship flying them to the test location. Khun is very anxious, but when the results are revealed, he is finally able to breathe a sigh of relief and looks forward to the Workshop Battle in earnest.

Jue Viole Grace's Team FUG – Tower of God Season 2 Episode 13

In the same way Khun has been training Team Sweet and Sour, Viole and his FUG-sponsored team have also been improving themselves and their teamwork. Even Novick, who was part of Khun's now-decimated team, can see that this is a group of highly talented individuals, showing the seriousness of FUG's intent. Novick and Khun Ran have been treated like prisoners in the month since joining Viole and Cassano in the aftermath of the demolition of the Hand of Arlen, but at Viole's request, they are at least given freedom from their shackles. They'll need to have their full range of mobility in the Workshop Battle. While they have been mostly protected by Viole, they don't really understand why he's looking out for them. When Viole tells them it's because they're Khun Aguero's friends, that only serves to further confuse them. He doesn't elaborate, but asks that they trust him. The Workshop Battle is now here, and each of the participating teams is transported to a giant ship called the Archimedes, while new characters who will bear significance in the Workshop Battle arc are teased in what was a decent conclusion to an immensely disappointing second season of Tower of God.
