The New Frontiers DLC for Tropico 6 has arrived on PC, and will be coming to PlayStation 4/5 and Xbox One/Series X on December 15. New Frontiers lets Tropico 6 players take their island dictatorship into the Space Race; walking on the Moon, establishing a Mars colony, or faking the whole thing in a movie studio.

Before players can tackle the Space Race of New Frontiers, they'll first need to build a wealthy island nation, and populate it with happy, healthy, and productive citizens. One of the most important tools for looking after citizens in Tropico 6 is their Food Happiness score, which summarizes a variety of food-based factors.

How to Produce Food in Tropico 6

Food is one of the most basic needs in Tropico 6 (just like real life). Citizens who have low Food Happiness will not only be more likely to join Rebel or Criminal Factions, but will also have a chance of starving to death. In order to raise Food Happiness, players will need to ensure that their citizens have an adequate quantity, a good variety, and convenient places to buy food.

The first of these points is the easiest to accomplish, as players can boost their food production through any of the agricultural buildings in the Food & Resources section of the build menu. Plantations, Ranches, and Fishermen's Wharves are the most reliable early sources of food, and can be upgraded in later eras into Hydroponic Plantations or Factory Ranches. Having a good variety of food types will also help to raise Food Happiness, as even the most loyal Tropico 6 citizen doesn't want to eat bananas for every meal.

Although citizens in Tropico 6 can collect the food they need to survive directly from agricultural buildings in an emergency, it's much more efficient to build Public Service buildings near their homes to distribute food. At the start of the game, players should build at least one Grocery in their urban areas, and add more as the demand increases. In Modern Times, players can build Shopping Malls for their well-off Tropico 6 citizens, which are capable of supplying many more citizens at once.

As well as Public Service buildings, players can also build certain Entertainment and Luxury Entertainment to boost the Food Happiness of their citizens. The Restaurant, Fast-Food Joint, and Gourmet Restaurant will all provide significant boosts to Food Happiness for any citizen that visits them. These Entertainment buildings, combined with a steady supply of varied food types, distributed through Groceries or Shopping Malls, will ensure that every Tropico 6 citizen has what they need to keep them happy, healthy, and loyal to El Presidente.

Tropico 6 is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
