Vicky White Helped Casey White Escape From Jail In 2022
It was 9.30am on April 29, 2022, at the Lauderdale County Jail in Alabama. Experienced correctional officer, Vicky White, escorted an inmate called Casey White to a police vehicle and they departed the facility. Vicky had informed colleagues that she was transporting the prisoner to the county courthouse for a psychological evaluation. Nobody questioned her as she was one of the more experienced officers on the team. However, alarm bells did start to ring when Vicky and Casey didn't return.
Shortly after Vicky and Casey left the detention center, the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department obtained a surveillance video from a local gas station, which showed Vicky's patrol car eight minutes after they left. Deputies dug a little deeper and discovered that there were no scheduled evaluations at the courthouse that day, and they became worried that Vicky had somehow been coerced into facilitating the release of Casey White. A statewide manhunt was put into full effect, with the aim of rescuing Vicky and putting Casey back behind bars.
Who Is Casey White And What Crimes Had He Committed Prior To His Escape?
- Casey Cole White was awaiting trial in a capital murder case.
- He was a highly dangerous prisoner, who had been moved to the Lauderdale County Detention Center in August 2020 to serve a 75-year sentence for a string of violent crimes.
- He allegedly confessed to an investigator to the 2015 stabbing death of 59-year-old, Connie Ridgeway.
- He was charged with two counts of capital murder, but he recanted his confession and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
- He had been a career criminal for over a decade, with a series of criminal convictions under his belt.
- In one of his more brutal crimes, he assaulted his brother with an axe-sledgehammer in 2012 and received a three-year sentence for it.
The Forbidden Romance Between The Inmate And Prison Officer Led To A Shocking Manhunt
Vicky was planning on retiring on the same day she left with Casey, but she never officially signed the paperwork. In the lead up to aiding Casey in his escape, she sold her four-acre property for $95,550, which was significantly less than the full value, and she'd also bought firearms and men's clothing. Officers discovered that Vicky had been giving Casey preferential treatment in jail, including extra food. These favors led to a romantic relationship between the pair, and the authorities reckon it could've started as far back as 2020. Vicky's employment was terminated, and arrest warrants were issued for both Vicky and Casey.
The forbidden lovers abandoned their car in Tennessee, and the manhunt was expanded nationwide. They switched to a blue 2006 Ford F-150 and took shelter in a string of motels. Vicky and Casey were seen in a gray Cadillac, and the police gave chase to the runaway lovers, and their vehicle flipped over, which led to their capture. Vicky shot herself and later died in hospital, while Casey surrendered without a struggle. On July 11, 2022, Casey White was charged with murder for the death of Vicky White. In May 2023, White accepted a plea deal, which involved him pleading guilty to first-degree prison escape in exchange for not being tried or executed for Vicky's death.
