There has been a legion of Zelda clones over the years, but almost all of them fail to capture the simplicity and excellence of the series. Exploring dungeons, acquiring new and powerful equipment, and learning more about the strange and beautiful world in which the game takes place are all central elements of that series, and that's something that Tunic took to heart.

Just because the hero is an anthropomorphic cartoon fox doesn't mean the game will be easy. Tunic has several difficult boss battles, including the player's fight against The Librarian . Battling it out atop a tower amidst a storm is stressful enough, and the boss possesses a number of deadly attacks to make it even more of a challenge. With a few tips, however, the player can take The Librarian down.

The Librarian Basics

Tunic - Start of Librarian Fight

One problem that players will have with The Librarian fight is the small space in which it takes place. The player faces off against this boss on a small platform, leaving few escape routes the player can use to dodge the boss's attacks. The Librarian has two dash attacks with which to close the distance, and they are perhaps the most difficult to dodge. The only thing that will help the player with them is keen observation and practice to learn the boss's animations.

The Librarian spends most of the battle floating in the air beyond the main platform, out of reach of melee attacks, so the player needs to take advantage of every opening they can to land hits. The longer the battle goes on, the more difficult it will become, so taking down the boss quickly is almost as important as taking it down carefully.

How To Beat The Librarian

Tunic - Librarian's Ground Pound with Lightning

Stylish and challenging bosses are as much a feature of this game as the one that inspired it. The Librarian's Energy Orb attack summons a number of damaging orbs that will track the player. Fortunately, their tracking works off of the player's last location, so as long as the player keeps moving, dodging them isn't too difficult. The Librarian also has two different moves that Summon enemies to the protruding areas of the arena. Though the summoned mobs aren't particularly tough, it's important to take them down quickly because they can otherwise overwhelm the player, especially if the boss summons them back to back.

In challenging titles like this one, even seemingly simplistic attacks often have a second feature that most be considered. This is the case with The Librarian's Ground Pound, an attack from which the player can simply roll away. The attack does create an electric AoE when the boss lands, however, so it's important to not accidentally roll into it while trying to avoid the main attack. Once the AoE has begun to fade, the player can move in for a quick hit or two before the boss recovers.

The lower the boss's health falls, the more quickly The Librarian attacks. This is particularly true when the boss's health drops below 25%, so the player must be particularly careful near the end of the fight. The boss will also spawn more Energy Orbs during this period, so dodging becomes more important than ever if the player want to keep this iconic fox alive.

Tunic is available for PC, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
