Tunic is an adorably fun indie game from the developer Isometricorp Games and publisher Finji. The game features stunning graphics from the sole artist and designer, Andrew Shouldice. Shouldice was inspired by The Legend of Zelda and other Nintendo classics.

While the game is absolutely adorable (especially the fox), it is actually quite difficult to master (unless you use some of the cheats available). One of the hardest parts of the game is figuring out how to open the Mountain Door at the end. Here's a guide to help players who are stuck.

One of Tunic's hardest challenges requires intimate knowledge of some late-game secrets.

What Is The Mountain Door?

Tunic - The Mountain Door

The Mountain Door is the door that can be found at the very top of the mountain, and opening it will give players the best ending for the game (though some may want to go for the worst ending first). It can be extremely difficult to figure out how to access this door since the ghosts in the game only mention the "Holy Cross" and "follow the Golden Path," which are both pretty ominous and difficult to decipher (just like the rest of the game's puzzles). Thankfully, while it is difficult to gather all the correct pieces to figure out how to open the Mountain Door, this guide will explain exactly how to do it.

What Is The Holy Cross?

Tunic Manual Cheat

The creator has mentioned several times that while he was designing the game, he was thinking about the times he was a child reading manuals that he couldn't quite understand. This, along with the fact that manuals are so nostalgic for him, prompted him to make the manual vital to playing the game. (For more information on that, check out The Best War Games's interview with Shouldice.) While reading through the manual, players will find a page (number 43) that mentions the Holy Cross. It also shows a controller's D-Pad and keyboard's arrow keys. This is exactly what the Holy Cross is—the "cross" players have been using to move around the game's world this entire time.

Players that are trying to translate the language in the indie game Tunic can find several resources that will help them in this guide.

How To Follow The Golden Path

Tunic - The Mountain Door Puzzle

The Golden Path is the hardest part to understand about opening the Mountain Door. In the manual (page 44), players will find "The Golden Path" written beside the number 49, meaning page 49 shows The Golden Path. The only issue with what is on page 49 is that it is a blank path, meaning players need to use the manual to figure out the path. Each square has a number that corresponds to a page, and the page will show what that square should look like. Once players check all the pages, they will come up with what is shown above. Each movement on the square corresponds with the button on the D-Pad (or arrow key) that they need to press. This is what players will need to press:

Up, Left, Down, Left, Up, Left, Down, Left, Up, Right, Up, Right, Up, Left, Up, Right, Down, Right, Up, Left, Up, Left, Up, Right, Up, Left, Down, Left, Up, Right, Up, Up, Left, Up, Right, Down, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Down, Left, Down, Right, Up, Right, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Right, Down, Left, Down, Left, Down, Right, Down, Right, Down, Left, Left, Down, Right, Down, Left, Down, Right, Up, Right, Down, Right, Up, Right, Right, Down, Down, Left, Up, Right, Up, Left, Down, Left, Up, Left, Up, Left, Up, Right, Right, Up, Left, Up

In order to ensure that this works, players will need to travel to the Mountain Door and stand in front of it. After pressing the code above on the controller or keyboard, players will be able to open the door and enter.
