Twitch has shared an official statement about its security measures at TwitchCon following videos surfacing about popular streamer Emiru being the victim of assault during the event. The Amazon-owned streaming platform has long stood as one of the premier destinations for many online content creators, with the livestreaming service expanding from its video games roots to "just chatting" streams and plenty more. Many streamers have found significant online stardom through the platform, with Twitch creators like Kai Cenat and Ninja becoming household names on the internet. Now, one of Twitch's biggest events of the year has seen a major controversy.
TwitchCon has become one of the streaming platform's largest events of the year, hosting a live convention for fans to meet their favorite streamers. The event has been hosted in a variety of different venues, with San Diego as one of its most frequented, often bringing in big-name guests like Megan Thee Stallion, T-Pain, and Tony Hawk. 2025's event, however, has already been home to a major controversy, with an overzealous fan harassing and assaulting Emiru during a meet-and-greet panel. Now, Twitch is speaking out about the event and its own measures.
Twitch Adds Requested Rewind Feature, But There's a Catch
Twitch introduces a stream rewind feature that users have been asking for, but there is more than one catch to make use of it.
Twitch has made an official statement after videos surfaced online of an altercation between Emiru and an unknown fan. The video depicts the man hurrying onto the stage and trying to grab Emiru against her will before a security official rushes in to defuse the situation. The controversy surrounding the incident has led Twitch to make an official statement about the event, confirming that Twitch was working with law enforcement and that the fan was banned from the premises and future Twitch events. Twitch also confirmed that it will be increasing security for its Meet & Greet events for the remainder of the convention.
Twitch Makes Statement Regarding Emiru TwitchCon Incident
The unsettling incident unfortunately comes as far from the first occasion of female streamers dealing with overzealous and obsessive fans. Emiru's joint "Sis-A-Thon" stream with Pokimane and Cinna earlier this year was shut down as the result of an aggressive stream sniper making threats towards the content creators. "IRL" streams have often been some of the most victimized livestreams, with some viewers even going so far as "swatting" and calling the police on streamers.
The TwitchCon controversy comes as the streaming platform has faced growing competition throughout recent years. YouTube has become another popular destination for many content creators looking to grow their own brand, with many big streamers bouncing back and forth between the two platforms. Kick has also been a major upstart in the streaming place, with popular Twitch creators like Asmongold and Amouranth streaming on the platform as well. Fans can only hope that Twitch's ramped-up security for TwitchCon will prevent any future incidents with their favorite creators.
