Ubisoft and Tencent have unveiled a new subsidiary called Vantage Studios. Led by Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, this billion-dollar project is named “the next step in Ubisoft's ongoing transformation” and will focus on some of its biggest franchises.

The Next Assassin's Creed Shadows Update is Adding a Big New Feature

The relationship between Tencent and Ubisoft began a few years ago, with the Chinese giant purchasing a 49.9% stake in Guillemot Brothers Limited, the group controlled by the Guillemot family, the founders of Ubisoft. The acquisition cost €300 million, equivalent to over $350 million, also giving Tencent a 5% stake in the company's voting rights. The million-dollar deal made Tencent, which already has invested in other well-known game studios, Ubisoft's largest shareholder, with an overall stake that could be increased to up to 17%. The association between Tencent and Ubisoft has become one of the Chinese giant's largest ventures in gaming, and this connection is growing even closer with the revelation of a new project.

Venture Studios Will Oversee Some of Ubisoft's Largest Franchises

Ubisoft and Tencent have announced the opening of Vantage Studios, a new subsidiary that will work on the development and expansion of the Rainbow Six, Assassin's Creed, and Far Cry franchises. The post on Ubisoft's official website states that Vantage Studios will comprise the development teams for the three franchises based at Ubisoft's studios in Montreal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia. Tencent has invested €1.2 billion ($1.25 billion) in Venture Studios and will own about a quarter of the new business, with Ubisoft holding the rest.

Ubisoft and Tencent Create Vantage Studios to Develop Its Biggest Franchises

The two companies' latest project made headlines in early 2025 when, after rumors that Tencent would buy Ubisoft, the conversation shifted to an idea that included only a few assets. In March 2025, the Ubisoft/Tencent subsidiary was first revealed, with the goal of working on the Rainbow Six, Assassin's Creed, and Far Cry series, although at the time, it did not have a name. The announcement emphasized, however, that the joint venture has objectives including improving the quality of solo narrative experiences, expanding multiplayer offerings by releasing more content, and integrating more social features.

The announcement of Venture Studios is exciting because, with this joint venture between Ubisoft and Tencent, developers will have a high level of autonomy to work on their projects and unleash their full creative potential while implementing player feedback. With an initiative of this magnitude, fans of Rainbow Six, Far Cry, and Assassin's Creed games are now waiting to find out how Venture Studios will take these franchises to the next level.
