You need energy to train everything except the Umamusume's Wit stat, and Wit will give you back some energy, but this is the only thing that uses energy. If your horse runs a race, does recreation, or has an event with zero energy, it will not change the outcome of the event in any way.
This means that you can use this to your advantage; if you are trying to run as many races as possible, you can train until your energy is depleted, then run a couple of races with no energy. This way, when you lose energy post-race, it won't matter as much. After running two races, you can then rest to refill your energy, then train again and repeat the cycle. This is the best way to win a lot of races in a single career in Umamusume.
How to Raise Energy in Umamusume
