Following its 2022 release, the Uncharted movie adaptation has found success on one streaming platform after sailing to the top of the charts. Starring Tom Holland as lead Nathan Drake, Mark Wahlberg, Sophia, Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas, the Uncharted live-action saw Drake and friends racing to find the lost treasure of the Magellan expedition, but the film didn’t receive the warmest of reviews from video game fans.
The adaptation is based on the action-adventure video game series by Naughty Dog, the developer behind The Last of Us, and the franchise kicked off in 2007 with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. Several sequels followed, including the very popular standalone expansion Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, and a remaster of Uncharted: A Thief’s End, the game that provided the most inspiration for the movie, was released in 2022 alongside the live-action. Naughty Dog’s game series, particularly A Thief's End, is considered to be one of the best cinematic games, alongside the likes of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots, and The Last Of Us Part 2.

Uncharted Movie Bags Number Two Spot on Amazon Prime Video's US Chart
Reported by MovieWeb, Uncharted has reached the number two spot on Amazon Prime Video’s top 10 movies chart within the United States. Considering the feature was sitting at number six only a week ago, it’s quite a noteworthy jump. Uncharted celebrated its digital release back in 2022 with behind-the-scenes clips, and it's surprising to see the adaptation reach the top of the charts three years later. The movie also landed on Max at the start of 2025, and it’s available to buy or rent on Prime now, offering one of the cheapest prices among other streaming competitors.
Since its explosive release on the silver screen, a potential sequel has still to appear. Uncharted producer Charles Roven confirmed Sony was interested in making another film, despite the first outing not becoming a major hit with fans of the game series. Instead, the feature seems to have appealed more to movie buffs who weren’t familiar with the source material, boasting a high-octane treasure-hunting adventure for all ages. Currently sitting with a 41% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a contradictory 89% Popcornmeter score, fans of the game complained the movie failed to deliver the same quality of writing and storytelling as the games, but admitted newcomers would enjoy the adventure without the need to compare.
Joining Uncharted, the ongoing The Last of Us live-action series under HBO, and the in-production Ghost of Tsushima movie, Sony also has another adaptation in the works. Amazon Prime has a God of War show in the pipeline, and the showrunner recently confirmed how many seasons the streaming service is planning. Following Spartan warrior Kratos on his path of vengeance through different ancient mythologies, the Prime adaptation recently bagged Netflix's The Witcher writer Tania Lotia, who also wrote and produced Invincible, Carnival Row, and Swamp Thing. With Sony green-lighting so many live-action adaptations, it proves how cinematic its games are, and with Uncharted sailing to the top of the charts, it’s likely a sequel will be announced soon.
