Summary

  • Vlad King's Blood Control Quirk is underrated yet powerful, offering flexibility and durability in fights.
  • Pro Hero Snipe's gun Quirk is simple but effective, highlighting the underused power of firearms in a superhero setting.
  • Many UA teachers, like Cementoss, Eraserhead, and Present Mic, have Quirks with untapped potential in the story.

A recent My Hero Academia Reddit thread attempted to establish the fan base’s favorite UA teacher Quirks, which often get overlooked. While the students and villains usually get much of the spotlight in the show, many of the teachers’ Quirks are seen as having lots of potential that wasn’t fully explored in the series.

In one way, it’s a shame that My Hero Academia has so many interesting characters. The story only has time to develop so many of them, leaving some cool ideas on the table as the series prepares for its final season airing later this year. Here are both some of the unexpected and expected choices fans picked for their favorite UA teacher's Quirks.

Vlad King’s Blood Control

An Underutilized but Powerful Ability

My Hero Academia Hero That Looks Like Villain Vlad King

One of the more surprising but popular picks for favorite UA teacher Quirks was Class 1-B Sekiijro Kan’s Blood Control Quirk. Also known as the Blood Hero Vlad King, his Quirk allows him to perfectly control his own blood after it has left his body. While this may not seem too strong on the surface, the flexibility and extra durability this Quirk offers Vlad is a considerable advantage in the types of fights that occur in My Hero Academia.

“I like Vlad’s Quirk, underrated and has so much potential.” -Reddit user Cartoonist-Motor praising Vlad’s Quirk.

“I feel like Vlad has a LOT of potential, even having lethal implications to his quirk. Bro's basically a blood bender like wtf.” -Reddit user Krimson_F expressing how much potential they feel Vlad’s Quirk had in the story.

Vlad is able to trap villains with his blood and dish out surprising amounts of damage for such a simple Quirk. He also seems to be able to withstand much more blood loss than the average person, which is an important quality to have when fights against villains often result in the shedding of blood from their fearsome attacks. It’s disappointing that the possibilities of Vlad’s Quirk were not further explored. One redditor joked that the only thing holding him back was that he wasn’t in the protagonist’s class.

“If he was in 1A, he would be controlling the entire planet by the 4th or 5th volume in.” -Reddit user Parker4815 poking fun at the MHA story’s preference for Deku’s class.

Third Year Teacher and Pro Hero Snipe

The Most Powerful Quirk of All: Gun

my hero academia anime episode 13 snipe with other teachers

Other My Hero Academia fans were taken with another underrated choice: the Pro Hero Snipe. The simplicity of his homing Quirk, combined with being one of the only heroes in the show who seemed to realize how powerful guns are, makes him a charming choice.

“Snipe because he's simple. No need for flashiness when you can deal with things the American way. Also he coulda killed Shiggy if he wanted to during the USJ.” Reddit user Jolly-Set2108 laying out how powerful Snipe could have been if the plot allowed him.

“It's funny how like 90% of the cast dies to a gun” -Reddt user HostHappy2734 pointing out a conceit of the MHA and the superhero genre in general.

There’s something to be said about a character who drops all pretenses and nuances and comes in guns blazing to deal out justice. Unfortunately, Snipe is never utilized to his fullest extent, likely because it would be a significant tonal shift for the show to have a hero who essentially blasts villains to pieces with guns. Heroes in My Hero Academia have an implied no-kill rule, where they only kill villains in the most desperate of circumstances.

“Please stand for the playing of the Snipe National Anthem.” Reddit user 1RehnquistyBoi felt patriotic while expressing their respect for Snipe.

Other Teachers Were Celebrated As Well

While Vlad and Snipe seemed to be the most popular choices among those who commented, many of the other teachers also received praise. Several comments pointed out Cementoss having an amazing quirk that seems really powerful in the setting.

“Cement is very underrated. Cementoss could've dropped hero work and made bank as a cement supplier. It'd be extremely lucrative given the amount of destruction that happens daily.” -Reddit user Clearlynotmalware putting some respect on Cementoss.

Eraserhead’s Erasure Quirk and Present Mic’s Big Voice Quirk also received some honorable mentions. The Blackhole Quirk wielded by Thirteen was the favorite of some others. A common theme among the commenters is that they felt many of the teacher’s Quirks had unrealized potential. This points to the power of a writer, and it feels like any Quirk could be powerful in the world if the author gives it enough time and attention. Sometimes in My Hero Academia, it feels like Class 1-A students’ Quirks are only portrayed as powerful because of their connection in the story to Deku. It’s hard to imagine that Quirks like Mineta’s Pop Off or Ojiro’s Tail are strong enough to put them into a fight against the universe’s strongest villains, while many other competent characters are sidelined.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
