Floyd Mayweather Jr., often considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, with a perfect 50-0 record, has claimed that he is currently in talks with developer Steel City Interactive to be added to its 2024 boxing video game, Undisputed. With big names such as Tyson Fury, Claressa Shields, Sugar Ray Leonard, and many more currently available in Undisputed, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Could be the next big superstar to be added to the popular title.
When it comes to boxing titles such as Undisputed or Fight Night, one of the biggest expenses developers and publishers face is the cost of paying high-profile boxers to feature in the game's roster. This isn't a problem for EA's UFC titles, as all the fighters are under one singular promotion, which makes licensing much easier, given EA's existing contract with the UFC. Boxing, on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish, as there are numerous promotions that developers, such as Steel City, must negotiate with.
New Undisputed Update Makes More Gameplay Improvements
Developer Steel City Interactive releases the fourth Undisputed update in five weeks, which includes significant gameplay improvements and fixes.
Floyd Mayweather Reportedly in Talks With Steel City Interactive
Steel City has already managed to license some of boxing's all-time greats, such as Canelo Alvarez, Buster Douglas, Larry Holmes, Rocky Marciano, and the great Muhammad Ali, but now it looks like the studio has its eyes set on Floyd Mayweather Jr. As discovered by a user on Reddit, Mayweather was asked what it would take from him to join the growing list of fighters in Undisputed, to which he replied, "I just need everybody to sit back, buckle your seat belts, because I may be on the next game." Now, Mayweather's wording makes it seem as though he is in discussions to appear in a currently unannounced Undisputed 2, but it's likely that the boxer misspoke and was referencing a possible new DLC or update.
Floyd has notoriously appeared in very few boxing video games over the years, with his last official appearance being in Fight Night Round 2 in 2005. Over the course of his career, Mayweather has reportedly generated over $1 billion in career earnings, making him the highest-earning boxer of all time. And with the fighter's nickname being Floyd 'Money' Mayweather, it's no surprise that his asking price to appear in boxing video games, such as EA's Fight Night series, is often speculated to be astronomically high. So, while the boxer says he's in talks with Steel City, it's important to take his words with a pinch of salt for the time being.
The good news is that Steel City is continuing to release a steady stream of new Undisputed updates and DLC packs. The latest significant patch came back in August, adding two new fighters to the game: Antonio Tarver, a former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion, and Billy Dib, a former featherweight and super-featherweight champion. A new DLC, known as The Takeover Pack, also added a bunch of new fighters for players to get their hands on.
