Undisputed is Steel City's latest boxing title. It is still in Early Access and not optimized to run on the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck can run it, but it has so many issues that it is almost unplayable in its current state. This guide will explain how to get Undisputed running on a Steam Deck.

The battery life is impacted without the tools needed for this guide, and the inconsistent framerate jumps between 14 and 25 FPS. It affects the responsiveness of the punches in Undisputed, which lack the required responsiveness for a combat title. With the guide provided here, Steam Deck players can get acceptable performance, play closer to a locked 30 FPS, and prevent the game from draining too much battery.

Updated on November 24, 2024, by Michael Llewellyn: Undisputed got a full launch in October 2024, but it's still labeled as 'Unsupported' for the Steam Deck. Thankfully, with some tinkering to the settings and Dekcy Loader's Power Tools, it runs perfectly well. However, the latest Steam Deck update broke the Decky Loader app. This update will show you how to restore the Decky Loader and get Undisputed running again.

The current traits in Undisputed define a fighter's style but are some better than others.

Even with the below settings, Undisputed is not a perfect experience. It frequently crashes when trying online modes and Prize Fights, forcing users to restart the Steam Deck and registering a loss or a defeat. So until Steel City gets a fix, stick to the offline modes only.

Installing Decky Loader

Steam Deck users must install a plugin called Decky Tools, which can be accessed from the Steam Deck's main menu. Adjusting The In-Game Settings

With SMT switched off in the Power Tools menu, it is time to tinker with the in-game settings. Use the following settings to get the best performance:

  • Back in the game, highlight Profile and select Video.
  • The Video settings should look like this:

With these settings in place, Undisputed players should get a solid 30 FPS lock on Steam Deck with the occasional drop to 29 FPS. Thanks to the Power Tools add-on, these settings will ensure Undisputed avoids draining the battery.

Battery consumption is still high at 19%, but it is preferable to 25-30%. Ideally, a fighting game like this would perform better with 60FPS, but until Steel City implements Steam Deck verified settings, this is the next best thing and a vast improvement over the erratic 10-24 FPS without them in place. However, with the high battery consumption, Steam Deck users may want to keep the machine plugged in for long sessions.

How To Fix Decky Loader On The Steam Deck

Decky Loader on the Steam Deck

Unfortunately, the latest Steam Deck update has broken Decky Loader, and it's likely vanished from the Quick Access Menu for most users. Luckily, this only breaks the program within Gaming Mode. With a few steps, you can restore your Decky app, your plugins, and all the current settings you like to have. Use the following steps to fix the Decky Loader on the Steam Deck.

  • Press the Steam button.
  • Select Power then switch to Desktop Mode.
  • In Desktop Mode, open a browser, navigate to the Decky Loader GitHub page, and select Download.
  • Double-click the newly downloaded installer and select Execute. It is crucial to avoid clicking 'Open' as it will wipe your original Decky Loader installation.
  • You will be prompted to enter your sudo password. If you haven't created one yet, the system will prompt you to do so.

Make sure you enter a memorable sudo password for future installs. It can't be changed without resetting the Steam Deck back to its factory settings.

  • Once the installer has finished, power off the Steam Deck.
  • Restart in Gaming Mode.
  • With the Steam Deck back in Gaming Mode press the QAM button and your Decky Loader program and all its plugins will be back.
