After completing The Local Guardsman, the initial quest teaching you how to use guards, you'll be allowed to station guards within any liberated town in Unicorn Overlord. It might not seem like setting up a guard will be an important aspect of the game, but it can actually be quite useful if you know what to do.
Other than just protecting a town, guards can be a great way to earn some extra gold and forage more items after a battle. Even when you station one of your team members as a guard, they can still join you in battle. Here's how you can go about stationing some guards around the five nations.

How to Station Guards in Unicorn Overlord
In order to station a new guard in Unicorn Overlord, you will first need to find a town that you have liberated. This will come after you complete side quests, main quests, liberation quests, and more. You'll be able to take over the small towns in these stages, where you'll eventually have the chance to shop here at the Armorer and Provisioner, as well as the ability to hire new team members and make deliveries to rebuild the town.
Making deliveries is actually where you'll need to start in each town to unlock stationing guards. For example, we visited La Criselle Town in the southeastern section of Cornia. As you can tell in the Deliveries section, there are two Restoration Requests. One requires 3 Honey Apples, while the other requires 10 Meager Scrap Metals. After you've provided these items, the section, 'Station a Guard', will unlock for you. Now, you can choose a guard for the town from any of your available party members and place them there.
Completing deliveries is also a great way to stock up on Honors and War Funds.

Benefits of Stationing Guards in Unicorn Overlord
After you've stationed a guard in town, there are a few different advantages you'll get from it. This includes:
- Earn additional gold from battles
- Gather materials from nearby foraging sites
When you station a guard, it is also important to note that the party member can still be used during battle stages and placed in a pre-planned unit formation. So, this means you can set up a guard in every town if you'd like.
After you complete any stage battle, each of these guards will be able to earn you additional War Funds, as well as gather materials from any nearby foraging sites that you've discovered. This is a great way to keep your team funded and provide additional items to make deliveries and restore towns. You'll receive the additional rewards at the end of every stage you complete.
