With over 250 possible endings, Until Dawn isn't just a one-and-done game. In fact, there are countless scenes of hidden dialogue and interactions that many players would miss during their initial playthrough. Some scenes require certain actions to unlock, whereas others require choices to be made in earlier chapters to unlock the hidden interactions later on.
Until Dawn: All Totems and Where to Find Them
With the addition of Hunger Totems in the Until Dawn Remake, it's time to return to the game and find them all. Here are all their locations.
As many decisions in Until Dawn often contain two choices and the occasional option to do nothing, there are alternative cutscenes to provide further insight into the narrative and even develop the backstories and relationships of the characters themselves. Here are some of the rarest interactions in Until Dawn and how to unlock them.
10 Matt Confronts Emily About Mike
Matt Must See Mike Hugging Emily
- Choose Encourage as Ashley in Chapter 1 when Matt asks to look through the telescope
- Choose Suspicious, Persistent, and Insistent when confronting Emily in Chapter 6
In Chapter 1, Matt can find Mike (Emily's ex) hugging Emily through a telescope if Ashley encourages him to look. Then, Matt can remember this and brings it up again in Chapter 6 after the radio tower collapses. When he's trying to figure out a way to reach Emily, Matt can confront her about Mike. If Matt chooses the Suspicious, Persistent, and Insistent dialogue options, he will accuse Emily of cheating on him, to which Emily says "Matt, I'm sorry."
9 Sam Mocks Chris
Chris Must Do Nothing At The Shooting Range
- Hesitate to shoot anything as Chris at the shooting range in Chapter 1 (do nothing)
Once Sam and Chris reach the shooting range in Chapter 1, the player controls Chris to get in some target practice (which will come in handy later). However, if Chris hesitates to choose between the bottles and sandbags, Sam will ridicule him. There are actually several different zingers that Sam can fire at Chris; for example, he can say things like "I don't think the targets are going anywhere" and "Finding it a little harder to pull the trigger when it's not a video game?"
8 Matt Finds Mike And Emily's Initials
Matt Must Clear The Snow Off The Bench
- Clear the snow off the bench as Matt in Chapter 2 (x2)
Ballistic Moon's Until Dawn remake included an extra section as Matt and Emily that was previously only playable if players pre-ordered the original 2015 game. In the bonus content, Matt and Emily are looking for a suitable location to get down and dirty in the woods, so Matt can clear some snow off a bench to be a gentleman. Emily will try and deter him once he approaches the bench once, but if he insists, Matt will wipe away the snow to reveal a carving of a heart with "Mike + Em" written inside. Matt will chastise Emily for bringing him here, telling her he feels like a "chump" but Emily works her charm on him and Matt eventually concedes that he's "lucky" to be here with her.
Until Dawn Remake: Best Quotes, Ranked
The characters in Until Dawn may be fighting for their lives, but that doesn't stop them from dropping a few memorable quotes.
7 Jess Rejects Mike's Advances
Mike Must Find The Tree Carving Near The Metal Bridge
- Find the carving in the tree near the metal bridge as Mike in Chapter 2
- Choose Seduce when talking to Jess inside the cabin
As Mike in Chapter 2, it is possible to come across a carving in a tree near the metal bridge that Mike and Jess walk across. Just like Matt, Mike will find another carving of a heart, this time with "M + E" written on it. Later on, inside the cabin, Mike can choose Seduce when he and Jess are in a romantic mood. If Mike found the carving, Jess would reject his advances and say "Are you gonna use the same line on next year's girl when she sees my initials in the tree?"
6 Sam Suspects Josh
Sam Must Successfully Evade The Psycho And Find All The Clues
- Successfully evade the Psycho as Sam in Chapter 5
- Find all (or certain) Mystery Man clues in the Psycho's workshop as Sam in Chapter 7
If Sam successfully evades the Psycho in Chapter 5, she will end up in his workshop in Chapter 7. Here, she can find several Mystery Man clues that hint toward the Psycho's identity. When she speaks to Mike in Chapter 7, there will be different dialogue options depending on which items are found.
For instance, Sam can find just the cellphone, just the remembrance board, just the death machine, etc. Her conversation with Mike changes each time, so it's worth going back and picking up one specific clue to see how Sam relates it back to Josh. Regardless of which items are found, Sam will suspect Josh's involvement in the whole scheme and inform Mike of her discoveries.
How to evade the Psycho as Sam:
- Don't shoot the squirrel as Chris in Chapter 1
- Find the baseball bat as Sam in the basement with Josh in Chapter 2
- Choose Run instead of Hide until Sam reaches the elevator shaft, then Hide and complete the QTE to turn out the flashlight
- Complete the Don't Move sequence when Sam is hiding in the elevator shaft
5 Emily Discovers Hannah And Beth's Fate
Emily Must Find All The Clues In Chapter 7
- Find all (or certain) Twin clues in the mines as Emily in Chapter 7
As Emily in Chapter 7, it is possible to find Twin clues that relate to Hannah and Beth's disappearance. Emily can find many of Beth's belongings and start piecing together what happened the previous year. Just like Sam in Chapter 7, Emily's dialogue changes depending on what she finds. Each scene will play out differently if only one item is discovered by Emily, i.e. Beth's head, the mark on the rock, Beth's cross, Beth's phone, and all Twin clues.
4 Matt Tells Jess About The Monster
Matt Must Use The Flare Gun Against The Wendigo
- Disagree with Emily's plan to go to the radio tower as Matt in Chapter 5
- Give Matt the flare gun as Emily in Chapter 6
- Jump to safety as Matt in Chapter 6
- Choose Inform as Matt when talking to Jess in Chapter 10 (Jessica must be alive)
If both Matt and Jess survive until Chapter 10, the former can inform the latter about the Wendigo, provided a few other conditions are met. If Matt disagrees with Emily's plan, she gives the flare gun to him, and Matt jumps to safety twice in Chapter 6 and there will be an optional dialogue choice in Chapter 10.
If Matt chooses Inform here, he will tell Jessica about a "monster" he encountered; in turn, Jess will tell him that the Wendigo is the same creature that attacked her in Chapter 4 and dragged her down into the mines. It is important to note that Jessica must have survived Chapter 4 for the exchange with Matt to happen.
Until Dawn Remake: Best Deaths, Ranked
There's a lot of ways to die in the new Until Dawn remake, but some of them are more creative and disturbing than others.
3 Emily Mentions Finding Beth's Head During Her Interrogation
Emily Must Be The Sole Survivor
- Find all Twin clues OR Beth's head only as Emily in Chapter 7
- Kill all other characters to make Emily the sole survivor
Sole survivor playthroughs aren't particularly popular in Until Dawn, but depending on which of the eight friends survives, there are different snippets of dialogue during their interrogation interviews in the end credits. If Emily finds all the Twin clues or just Beth's head in Chapter 7, she will mention it to the police officer in the interview room.
When asked about the Wendigo, Emily will say that it isn't an animal or a person, but it "collects things" like a human would. When asked what she found, Emily will tell the interviewer that she found Beth's head, which prompts law enforcement to "make a note to investigate further."
2 Emily Doesn't Trust Matt
Matt Must Walk Away After Helping Emily Squeeze Through The Window
- Choose Help Emily Through in Chapter 5
- Walk away as Matt once Emily is inside
In Chapter 5, Matt is forced to choose between breaking down the door to the cable car station or helping Emily squeeze through the window. If Matt chooses to Help Emily Through and then walks away once Emily is inside, she will desperately call his name. When Matt wanders back over, Emily reprimands him for leaving her, then tells him that "this is a complete and total breakdown of even the slightest glimmer of trust" she had that he could protect her from the Psycho and Wendigos. Matt will say he's sorry and that he didn't know what he was thinking, while Emily takes a dig at his intelligence.
1 Chris Gets Whacked With A Wooden Plank
Ashley Must Say Hannah Overreacted
- Choose Dismissive as Ashley in Chapter 6
In Chapter 6, Chris and Ashley are searching around in the basement for Sam and come across several Mystery Man clues, such as meat hooks and a hidden video camera. In one of the tunnels connecting different areas of the basement, Ashley and Chris will spark a discussion based on the events of the previous year, which resulted in the disappearances of Hannah and Beth Washington. Specifically, Chris will show remorse for the prank they all played on Hannah.
If Ashley chooses Dismissive as a response, she will mention how Hannah overreacted. Since Chris and Ashley believe Hannah's ghost is stalking them, it only makes the moment more tense when a wooden plank suddenly falls and hits Chris in the head.
