The Switch 2 would see instant success following its official launch, not only breaking records for Nintendo's own consoles but becoming the fastest-selling video game console in the US. As reported by ComicBook, a report from Nintendo insider Nash Weedle is hinting at a long-awaited feature arriving to the Switch 2. According to the post, Nintendo is currently working on implementing themes for the Switch 2, with players able to customize the look of their Switch 2 home screens. The post does not share any specific details about how themes will be implemented or whether themes for the Switch 2 will be static, dynamic, or both. The post also suggests that fans may be waiting a while for Switch 2 themes, not expected to debut this year.

Nintendo Switch 2 May Be Adding Themes

The addition of themes has been a major request from fans since the launch of the original Switch in 2017, with Nintendo's previous handheld supporting themes. The Nintendo 3DS featured a full array of themes for players to customize their home screens on the handheld, even making several available for free on the handheld. Both the Switch and Switch 2 currently only support two "themes" on the consoles, with a light and dark mode setting for the console's menus.

Nintendo will look to carry the Switch 2's early momentum throughout the rest of the year as more high-profile games hit the console. Alongside Nintendo's first-party offerings, multiple third-party games have confirmed a same-day launch on Switch 2 later this year, including Gearbox's Borderlands 4 and 2K Sports' NBA 2K26.
