Leather is a crafting reagent in V Rising that players will need not long after establishing their Castle Hearts. However, there is not much in the way of in-game instruction about how to obtain this important material, and indeed some fans may be unclear about how they are meant to pursue it. Fortunately, it is fairly easy to get leather in V Rising, and this guide is here to walk players through the process.

Updated May 11, 2024 by Marc Santos: Getting leather in the full 1.0 version of V Rising is the same as it has always been back during the early access days. Players will still need to progress through the main tutorial/questline, defeat a certain V Blood boss, create a specific crafting station, and gather the right materials in order to get this important crafting material. This guide has been updated to include more tips on how to make leather faster and where to get the necessary ingredients in order to make them.

V Rising: How to Make Leather

The first step toward making leather is to reach the "Expanding my Domain" quest, which instructs fans to upgrade their Castle Heart. By the time that a player is on this quest, they should already have upgraded their gear in V Rising. The boss that is relevant to making leather is Keely the Frost Archer, and you can track her location by opening the menu screen and going to the V Blood section.

This action will cause a blood trail to appear, and players should follow it to the Bandit Trapper Camp in the Farbane Woods . Fighting Keely in V Rising shouldn't take much effort — defeat her to unlock the Tannery, among other rewards. Building a Tannery requires 8 Planks and 160 Rugged Hide, and fans can make one by locating the crafting station within the Build menu when they have the requisite materials.

With the Tannery built, interact with it and drag the Rugged Hide they find into one of the input slots. By default, it takes 16 Rugged Hide to make just one piece of leather, so you'll want to get a good stockpile going.

Luckily, the Farbane Woods are a great place to do just that, and it should not take players too long to farm hides and make a suitable stockpile of leather. Those who are looking to get plenty of Rugged Hide as quickly as possible should attack the dens of wolves and bears, or hit the Bandit Trapper Camp again.

To note, Keely is certainly not the only boss that grants players the ability to create a new crafting station when they are defeated. Fans are thus advised to spend some time perusing the V Blood list, as that may lead them to another building that they are interested in unlocking. Players can also earn new abilities by pursuing V Blood bosses like the Ferocious Bear, providing even further incentive to track down bosses through the altar.
