Valheim has released a new update, delivering a range of improvements across the Ashlands biome and the game as a whole. Created by Iron Gate Studio, Valheim debuted in early access in 2021 and swiftly gained widespread acclaim, selling over 12 million copies on Steam.

This co-op survival game immerses players in a Viking-inspired fantasy realm, teeming with diverse biomes and lurking dangers. Despite still being in early access, Valheim impresses with its wealth of content and frequent updates. A previous update, Ashlands, was released in May and marked one of the game's most significant content drops. It introduced a new endgame biome, over 30 new weapons, three armor sets, two capes, more than 70 buildable items, over 30 crafting materials, and additional features, further enriching the gameplay experience.

Now, Valheim has received another update that primarily addresses various bugs and performance issues rather than introducing new content. Key fixes include resolving a problem where players would become stuck in a falling animation on Flametal Spires and significantly reducing the chance of these Spires sinking upon impact from 10% to 1%. The drop rate for Flametal Spires has been adjusted to 2-4 per chunk, and the sound effect for mining Flametal ore in Valheim has been corrected. Additionally, a major network issue that led to corrupted network objects resulting in slower player base loading, increased structural instability, and other gameplay issues, has been fixed.

Valheim August Update Brings Several Bug Fixes

Several gameplay tweaks and bug fixes have been implemented, such as adjusting spawn rates for various enemies, making smoke bombs effective for extinguishing fires, and improving cooking station functionality. Notable quality-of-life improvements include making it possible to cook hare meat on a wooden cooking station and ensuring chicken meat is properly attached to hooks. The update also addresses performance issues, such as fixing bugs related to the player list and loading screens. For Mac and Xbox Valheim users, specific fixes have been applied to address issues with game performance, multiplayer interactions, and display problems.

These continuous updates, which include both new content and bug fixes, underscore Iron Gate Studio's commitment to player satisfaction. However, despite its rich Viking simulation elements, Valheim does not yet offer the classic Viking raiding experience, as players are unable to pillage settlements or conduct raids.   • Ping icon is now correct on non-singleplayer servers on Mac
  • Tweaks to functionality for scrolling to make it less resource expansive, noticeable on weaker systems.
  • Fixed an issue to make sure to register the Game Center platform id without the "A:_" prefix, since that would later break the parsing of the platform ID when adding players to the player list since it expects only one underscore to be present in the string. This would've caused issues with muting players via the player list, but with this fix, muting works as expected with MAS players.

Xbox:

  • Fixed a crash issue that could happen when suspending the game
  • Pins on the minimap on Xbox is now a reasonable size on 4K displays
  • Fixed a bug that made the game think that every player in the player list was the local player. This bug was the root cause of multiple issues since privilege checks became completely broken. This impacted Managing Player Communication, Display Name and GamerPic, and Maintaining Multiplayer Session State.
  • Fixed a bug concerning Joinable Game Sessions and Online Play
  • Fixed an error on Xbox One caused by Mouse.current returning null if if no mouse is plugged in.
