Venom 3 reviews aren't out yet, but two alleged early reactions aren't the most optimistic news for fans of Tom Hardy's first two entries in Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

Venom: The Last Dance is the concluding chapter of a trilogy that started with the first film and continued with the sequel, Let There Be Carnage. While they were both box office hits, the first two Venom movies received negative reviews from critics. Fans were decidedly more positive towards them. The first Venom movie holds an 80% audience score against its 30% critics score, while Let There Be Carnage's audience score sits at 84% against a critic score of 57%. However, if a reputable scooper is to be believed, Venom 3 may not resonate with audiences as well as its predecessors.

Spider-Noir Producer Has Some Interesting Words About Nicolas Cage’s Character

Sony's Spider-Noir producer teases a gritty, fresh take on Nicolas Cage's version of the webslinger.

Scooper Daniel Richtman claims he spoke to people who saw Venom 3 and did not like it, despite enjoying the first film and Let There Be Carnage. Richtman did not provide details on who these people were or specifically how many people he spoke to. He did seemingly acknowledge that these reactions are not indicative of what most people will think of Venom 3, writing, "Take that as you will."

The Direct co-founder Jack McBryan responded to Richtman's post by taking a dig at those who liked the first two Venom films and expressing excitement for The Last Dance. "People with bad taste didn't like #Venom3, could be the best or worst thing for this movie, but either way, it makes me more excited," McBryan wrote. Other fans responded to Ritchman's post by roasting Venom: Let There Be Carnage. "Anyone who said they enjoyed the second is lying," wrote @NevinMcScott. Similarly, @charIiestfu wrote, "I think anyone who liked the second one cannot be trusted."

Fans will learn what critics thought of Venom 3 soon, but if the general response is negative, it would continue a troubling trend for Sony's Spider-Man Universe and comic book movies. Aside from the Venom movies, Sony's Spider-Man Universe so far only consists of Madame Web and Jared Leto's Morbius, both critical and box office bombs. While it's not released until December 13, many expect Kraven the Hunter to continue Sony's record of mediocrity.

The box office success of the first two movies doesn't guarantee Venom 3 will be a hit. Recently, comic book movie sequels have had difficulty reaching the same financial fortune as their predecessors. DC's Aquaman 2 and Shazam 2 underperformed compared to the first films in each franchise, and The Marvels couldn't get anywhere near the $1 billion-plus gross of the first Captain Marvel film. More recently, Joker 2 bombed at the box office despite being a sequel to a billion-dollar hit that was also an awards season darling. Whether a similar fate awaits Venom 3 remains to be seen.

Venom: The Last Dance will be released in theaters on October 25, 2024.

Venom 3 is the third and final installment in Sony's symbiote trilogy starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. It follows the events of Let There Be Carnage, where the anti-hero fought serial killer Cletus Kasady, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Brock was briefly transported to the MCU through the multiverse.
