Like a lot of psychological horror games, Visage features a Sanity Meter. When the bar fills up, paranormal events will trigger, making the indie title a whole lot scarier. It can also hinder progress while trying to solve puzzles to continue with the story.
To keep these paranormal events at bay in the indie horror game inspired by P.T., players can keep their Sanity Meter in check by finding and using a lighter on a candle. The light is something of a safe haven, but both lighters and candles have limited uses.
Where to Find A Lighter in Visage
There are a lot of new players trying out Visage because of its inclusion in Xbox Game Pass. Regardless of what platform they are on, all players are told very early on that finding a lighter and using it on a candle will help heal sanity while standing in the dark. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell them where to find a lighter.
The earliest place players can get a lighter in Visage is up the stairs, in the main bedroom with the baby monitor, on the right. Go to the desk by the window and players will find the lighter on the desk, to the right of the candle holder plate.
There will be more lighters to find while exploring all of the chapters in Visage, so make sure to search every drawer and corner to pick them up and sort them into the Dynamic Inventory. Two important things to remember about lighters are:
- They have a limited amount of uses
- They must be used on a candle to heal Sanity
How to Use a Lighter in Visage
To use a lighter in Visage, players must first have it held in one of their hands. Lighters are stored in the Dynamic Items, so bring up the inventory menu and "Store" the lighter on a free hand. Console players can do this by pressing either LT/L2 or RT/R2, while PC players should click the left or right mouse button.
To use the lighter on its own, hold down the corresponding button it is equipped in. So if the lighter is on the right hand, players should hold down RB/R1 on consoles to provide light. PC players would hold down the right mouse button in this case.
Using a lighter can provide a light to see all those recent Xbox Series X enhancements in Visage better, but it won't heal the Sanity Meter. Players should light a candle if they are looking to do this. To light a candle, look at one with the lighter equipped in either hand, then hold down either RB/R1 or LB/L1 on consoles, whichever prompt appears when looking at the candle. On PC, hold down the corresponding mouse button.
Visage is out now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and is planned to release on PS5 sometime in November 2021.
