Vorax is a new game with strong Sons of the Forest vibes that also throws the player on a hostile island to survive alone against horrors. Fans of the survival horror genre are already having a pretty good year with Sons of the Forest and Resident Evil 4, and now they can try out the demo of this new indie game.
Survival horror games are faring pretty well right now after a renaissance of the genre in the last decade. Sons of the Forest, for example, recently took the world by surprise by breaking many records on Steam. It was the best-selling game on the platform for a few weeks last month, and it featured among the most-played games on Steam Deck.
Now, IndieGala, the creator of Vorax, has released a demo of their game on Steam. Vorax is similar to Sons of the Forest, as it’s an open-world survival horror game. In the title, the gamer takes the role of a mercenary who got stranded on a Mediterranean island that is facing an outbreak of a mysterious pathogen. Soldiers were shipped to the region to control it, but it seems that they failed, and the protagonist is sent to investigate. The player will need to get food, craft tools and find shelter to be able to survive in this inhospitable place while trying to uncover what happened.
Vorax is a single-player title that could easily compete with the darkest new video games of 2023 in style and horror. According to the developer’s Steam page, the full game will have a large, detailed environment that mixes urban areas, caves, and sewers. To survive in this dangerous region full of monsters, the players will need to hunt, cook food, craft powerful weapons, and deal with sleep and stress mechanics, which are set to take survival aspects to the extreme.
Unfortunately, gamers who want to play the full version of Vorax will need to wait until 2024. The current demo offers only a slight insight into what the full game will be, so players would be better off playing Sons of the Forest before the official launch. Related to this, Sons of the Forest may be teasing updates using in-game magazines. For instance, it has been speculated that the title may receive a VR update soon. It’s not a far-fetched idea, as the game is still available only in Early Access, and the developers have not denied the possibility in recent interviews.
Vorax is expected to launch for PC in 2024.
