For the most part, Telltale Games' The Walking Dead series received critical and fan acclaim, in no small part due to the continuing story of its main protagonist, Clementine. While Clementine's story came to a close in The Walking Dead: The Final Season, there's a chance that she may appear again after all.
Skybound Entertainment picked up the rights to develop and publish Telltale Games' The Walking Dead after the studio abruptly shut its doors halfway through the final season's development. Skybound representatives have previously stated that the series likely isn't over, though the company isn't currently working on a new season of The Walking Dead game in the same vein.
The new Clementine tease comes courtesy of Robert Kirkman himself, the writer of The Walking Dead comic series. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, it was revealed that the team behind the original comic series would return for a one-shot in order to help give the comic industry a boost during these trying times, entitled Negan Lives. It's in this comic that Kirkman dropped his hint.
To be fair, all Kirkman really had to say about Clementine is "P.S. Clementine Lives" at the very end of the comic's letters column. However, it's the context that counts. Kirkman had previously closed out the letters pages for the final The Walking Dead comic with "Negan Lives," which seemed to just be a harmless quip at the time. However, it's since manifested into its own comic book, so the implication is that Clementine's story may see a continuation at some point - if not in video game form, then perhaps as a comic from the original creator.
The Walking Dead comic characters have frequently appeared in the Telltale/Skybound games, as both the comic and the game series are supposed to exist in the same canon universe. While characters like Lee and Clementine haven't made the jump from video games to comic book pages, Kirkman's apparent fondness for Clementine's story has been noted before, as it was one of the main reasons why the Skybound Entertainment owner chose to rescue the series. It would make sense, then, that the series writer could be considering penning a story for her.
Of course, Kirkman could just be teasing fans with no concrete plans for Clementine's future one way or the other. However, what's definitely clear is that despite its conclusion back in 2019, Clementine's story of survival remains in the minds of fans and creators alike.
The Walking Dead: The Final Season is available now for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
