A Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos player has created a wonderful kart racing mod in the high-fantasy RTS, reminiscent of Nintendo’s Mario Kart series, complete with boosts and coins. Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos was first released over 20 years ago in 2002, serving as the second sequel to Warcraft: Orcs & Humans. Fast-forward to 2020, Blizzard Entertainment released Warcraft 3: Reforged, which included a remastered version of Warcraft 3 plus its expansion titled The Frozen Throne.
Checking in with the franchise’s MMORPG, World of Warcraft revealed a major quality-of-life change in patch 11.2 recently, which introduced improved spell visual density settings for players. Additionally, fans will want to mark Gamescom 2025 on their calendars, as Blizzard plans to reveal more details about World of Warcraft’s Midnight expansion at the event. Luckily, anyone who is not able to attend Gamescom can catch any announcements through social media.
New World of Warcraft Update Makes Secret Change Not Mentioned in the Patch Notes
World of Warcraft makes a big improvement to the game in the 11.1.7 Legacy of Arathor update that wasn't mentioned in any patch notes or blogs.
Posted on YouTube by egodbout2, the Warcraft 3 fan and modder shared a nearly seven-minute video explaining how they managed to implement a playable kart racing game in the RTS, similar to another Warcraft 3: Reforged mod that transformed the game into a third-person RPG. Some of the main features from the mod include a fully custom UI for up to 20 players, a built-in gravity physics system, a third-person camera for all players, and much more. Additionally, players can race in solo play or multiplayer mode, and since it’s an open-source model, other modders can download the map from Epic War to create their own projects.
Warcraft 3 Modder Creates Kart Racing Game in the RTS
Thanks to the elaborate mods being created, other past games have been genre-bended before, including the 90s FPS Quake, a multiplayer shooter game that was ahead of its time, which was turned into "Quake Rally." 23 years on from Warcraft 3’s initial release, fans were gobsmacked to see kart racing in their beloved RTS, and some had been following the mod’s progress from the beginning, spanning the last few years.
The racing genre of video games has its fair share of the best mascot kart racers, including the likes of Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, and Donkey Kong, and it’s a joy to imagine one of Warcraft’s Orcs or another fantasy race from Azeroth serving as the racing mod’s mascot. Furthermore, one fan of Warcraft’s kart racing expressed their interest in seeing someone build a Sonic game in Warcraft 3.
