LoreCraft Designs is a group of Warcraft fans who took it upon themselves to recreate all of Warcraft 2 within the Warcraft 3 engine. Consisting of a team of seven designers and dozens of other contributors, LoreCraft had a Herculean task ahead of them, considering the vast differences between Warcraft 2 and 3, as well as the lore discrepancies that have emerged over the near-three decades the franchise has existed.
It Seems Pretty Clear Why StarCraft 3 is Not a Thing Yet
Even though fans have been clamoring for a StarCraft 3 for years now, it seems like Blizzard really has no reason to spend time making one.
Now, LoreCraft’s hard work has finally paid off with the first half of the Warcraft Chronicles of the Second War: Tides of Darkness project. This free Warcraft 3: Reforged map set includes 17 missions that tell the story of the Horde campaign from Warcraft 2, but tweaked with modern lore elements from World of Warcraft and background novels. The free campaign includes brand-new cinematics, original voice acting, remastered soundtracks, and new game mechanics, allowing players to relive Warcraft 2 on a more modernized engine. Warcraft 3: Reforged Chronicles of the Second War Features

Though this incredible custom campaign is impressive, it is only the beginning of LoreCraft’s journey to breathe life into the old Warcraft RTS games. It already has plans to remake the Human campaign from Warcraft 2 as a part of the Chronicles of the Second War project. Additionally, the designers are concurrently working on Chains of Conquest, a mod that retells and expands upon the story of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, including the rise of the Horde in Warcraft lore and fall of the Draenei, though it is still early in development.
Other fans have been working on similar projects, such as Warcraft 3: Re-Reforged, which seeks to remake the Warcraft 3 campaign while following through on Blizzard’s original vision when the remaster was first announced. Though Warcraft 3: Reforged released to a lukewarm reception, these mods might give players a reason to check out the remastered RTS after all.
