Taking on the Tyranid forces in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 begins with selecting a class that best aligns with your playstyle. The game features six distinct classes to choose from, each offering unique strengths and playstyle options. Selecting the right class is the first step in the right direction if you wish to have a smooth start to your campaign.

Although you're free to choose from any of the six available classes, it's important to note that not all classes are built equal — a select few stand out for their accessibility and versatility! Considering that, here are three beginner-friendly classes in Space Marine 2 that should help make your campaign a lot smoother and more enjoyable.

The Deathwatch aren't like other chapters, and getting their armor set in Space Marine 2 is a bit different than others.

Tactical Class

The Tactical class is one of the most diverse and versatile classes in Space Marine 2. With the Tactical class, you gain access to a large arsenal of primary weapons, a sidearm, and the Chainsword melee weapon.

The Tactical armor class also grants you three bars of armor, enabling you to withstand enemy attacks longer than other classes. The Tactical class derives its strength from the diversity of weapon options, making it a deadly class in both medium and long range combat.

When it comes to ability, the Tactical class is paired with the Auspex Scan ability, which scans the surroundings for enemies and marks them for you. Additionally, the scan also places a debuff on the marked enemies, making them easier to kill.

Vanguard Class

The Vanguard armor class is basically a slightly weaker Tactical class with improved mobility. Unlike the Tactical class, the Vanguard class allows you to choose from three primary weapons, including the Melta Rifle, a secondary pistol, and two melee weapons.

When it comes to damage negation, the Vanguard offers medium protection with two armor bars. However, the game lets you overcome this limitation by investing in powerful perks like the Emperor's Blessing, enabling you to recover all armor upon taking lethal damage.

What makes the Vanguard class truly mobile is its Grapnel Launcher ability, allowing you to quickly close the gap between an enemy, or create distance when surrounded by hordes of Tyranids.

Heavy Class

The Heavy is one of the most enjoyable classes in Space Marine 2, and it's designed to be the front-runner in the squad. Heavies are great at drawing enemy aggression and buying time for the rest of the squad. Heavies also enjoy tier 3 armor level and their weapons are tailored for close-range combat.

Speaking of weapons, the Multi-Melta rifle is unique to the Heavy class, and it's excellent at taking out multiple enemies with a single shot. While Heavies can use primary and secondary armaments, they cannot equip a melee weapon. However, if you run out of ammo, pressing the melee button will cause the heavy to swing their weapon instead.

Given that Heavies are meant for frontline combat, they are also gifted with the Iron Halo ability, which creates a kinetic bubble around the character, blocking all ranged damage. Moreover, you can further improve the Iron Halo by investing in perks that modify the ability in interesting ways, like damaging enemies that touch the halo or granting a buff to teammates that stay near the halo.
