Although it could be said that almost every game in the franchise has great strong points, several also have certain weaknesses, such as not offering a solo campaign. Playing games with others is fun, but sometimes, a little peace while completing a single-player campaign is also welcome. For those looking to scratch such an itch, here are five Warhammer 40K games with the best single-player campaigns.

  • Visually appealing art style
  • Entertaining single-player campaign

Set many years after the events of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine on the Forge World of Graia, Warhammer 40: Boltgun puts players in the shoes of Malum Caedo, a Veteran Space Marine who's been assigned an essential mission. After dealing with the Chaos and Ork threats, the members and leaders of The Inquisition have taken it upon themselves to stay alert and defend Graia from anyone trying to attack it.

Malum Caedo is tasked with recovering a very important power source that can turn the tides of battle. After hours of fighting and surviving, players will learn that the Chaos Forces' leader. Tumulus Samael, also seeks the mighty power source to bring his plans to fruition.

While the game was released in 2023, the art style is kept vintage, with an old Doom look that players will find familiar and comfortable to experience. The combat is well-balanced, and the enemies hardly ever feel like pushovers. As such, the game's single-player campaign, while not the longest in gaming history, is certain to provide gamers with hours of fun.

  • Good graphics and combat mechanics for its time
  • A captivating single-player story

Not too long after Orks invade the Forge World, Graia, military commanders must come up with a way to free the planet from their control, as the forceful occupation has brought the production of all industrial-related activities to a screeching halt, hindering the Empire's war capabilities greatly. Players will be able to play as Captain Demetrian Titus, a decorated war veteran who fears nothing and no one.

For a game released in 2011, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine looks and feels great. With fast-paced combat, a modern world and graphics (for the time), and dozens of playing possibilities, it's undeniable that the game and its single-player features have done more than enough to earn it a place among the top positions in the Warhammer 40K universe. Hundreds of thousands of players are already counting the days until the sequel is released, which will introduce new combat modes, greatly improved graphics, powerful, deadly weapons, and more possibilities than hardcore fans could ever dream of.

  • Great alignment system that changes depending on decision-making
  • Fun, turn-based, strategic combat

One of the most beloved things about the Warhammer 40K universe and the large variety of games set within it is that there's always room for variety. One title might be an FPS with fast-paced combat and survival mechanics, while the next could have a vintage look with deep-level exploration. Although Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader is neither, it does feature a turn-based combat system where players can control 6 different characters through social interactions and battles.

The title also features a great alignment system that determines several aspects of the game depending on various choices. Heretical choices, for example, are Chaos-aligned, whereas Dogmatic ones stick to religion, order, and the supremacy of the all-knowing, mighty God-Emperor. Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader is neither the first nor the only game in the franchise featuring turn-based, strategic combat. It is, however, the most recent and offers hours of fun for fans worldwide.

  • Enticing lore that plays well with the game
  • Introduction of a new faction

Being the first of the franchise's games to introduce the new Adeptus Mechanicus faction, Warhammer 40K: Mechanicus has great features, including a very entertaining single-player mode that many fans have loved since its release in 2018. Similar to Rouge Trader, this title is also turn-based, requiring a strategic approach as players lead large forces in the shoes of several Adeptus Mechanicus commanders.

  • 4 main factions players can choose from
  • Turn-based strategy that innovates enough without straying too far from the original concept

Total War: Warhammer 3 doesn't break the mold in any way, nor does it stray too far from other turn-based strategy games in the Warhammer franchise. However, this title is the perfect example why, sometimes, disruption isn't necessary to create a great game. Praised by critics and players alike, the game features four main factions: Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh, and Tzenntch, each with different attributes.

All in all, the game is a great addition to the franchise, offering entertaining single-player experiences that promise long periods of fun. While the requirements to run it on a PC aren't too demanding, it's recommended to have a decently-equipped system to get the best performance.
