Each character class in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 revolves around a distinct class ability, while some of them also specialize in a specific type of weaponry that makes each of them unique. Once players get into Space Marine 2’s Eternal War PvP and the Operations PvE game modes, all classes will be available for players to choose from.
It’s important to note that the character and weapon perks for each class in Space Marine 2 will only be available while playing Operations. As for Space Marine 2’s PvP game mode, Eternal War, this has a separate progression system for the character classes.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2 Are Two Sides of the Same Coin
Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2 naturally have a lot in common, but they also have some unique features that set them apart from each other.
Every Character Class in Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
Assault
Class Ability: Jump Pack can launch players vertically or horizontally, enabling a strong ground-pound attack.
Assault specializes in melee combat, and although they can’t use primary weapons, their class ability makes up for this by expanding their kit with new melee attacks and mobility options. Since the Assault class has access to some of the melee weapons with the highest cleaving potential stats, combined with the AoE attacks players can equip for the Jump Pack’s maneuvers, the Assault class excels at crowd control.
Cleaving Potential refers to a melee weapon’s effectiveness at striking multiple enemies with a single attack.
Bulwark
Class Ability: Places a Chapter Banner that gradually restores armor for any nearby teammates until it expires.
The Bulwark is another melee-based class that can’t use primary weapons, instead, they have access to a secondary weapon, a melee weapon, and a personal shield that blocks all but the heaviest of attacks from ranged, melee, and explosives weapons. Since the Bulwark class lacks a primary weapon and any kind of enhanced mobility, the shield is the highlight of this character class, so it's highly recommended to play into this class’ strengths as a tank and support role, prioritizing defense over offense.
Heavy
Class Ability: Creates a temporary Iron Halo shield that blocks all ranged attacks. Nearby teammates also take reduced damage from ranged attacks while the shield is active.
The Heavy class in Space Marine 2 is essentially the ranged-weapons counterpart to the Bulwark, blocking ranged attacks and also providing defensive buffs to nearby teammates with the Heavy’s class ability. This class has no melee weapon, instead specializing in powerful mid-range weaponry. The Heavy class also has a unique mechanic known as the Heavy Stance, where players will be unable to parry or dodge, but their primary weapons can benefit from various buffs, depending on their weapon perks.
Sniper
Class Ability: Camo Cloak hides the player from other players and enemy NPCs.
The Sniper’s PvE perks offer a surprising amount of variety in viable builds in Space Marine 2’s Operations game mode, even including melee builds. Snipers can opt for a support role that specializes in reviving fallen teammates, a defensive role that prioritizes self-preservation, an offensive role that flanks enemies with sneak attacks, or a blend of all three roles. Even in PvP, the Sniper’s unmatched range and stealth can be a deadly combo.
Tactical
Class Ability: Auspex Scan marks enemies within a small radius, highlighting them for teammates and increasing the damage they take for the ability’s duration.
Both the Vanguard and the Tactical classes in Space Marine 2 are relatively well-rounded classes that can use a wide variety of weapons. With their PvE perks, the Tactical class can tap into builds that emphasize their ammo efficiency and apply various debuffs with their class ability.
Vanguard
Class Ability: The Grapnel Launcher will lock onto an enemy and propel the player toward them, finishing in a strong melee attack.
Another jack-of-all-trades, although the PvE perks for the Vanguard class are generally more melee-focused than the Tactical class. Vanguard’s primary and secondary weapons are great for crowd control, while their class ability and melee are more suited to handling 1v1s with bosses or other players.
