Warlander is a free-to-play online multiplayer game that combines a fantastical medieval setting with many interesting elements, including robots. It features battles with up to 100 players in 2 Army Battle and 5 Army Battle game modes. Players will embark on intense battles involving extreme siege warfare with the goal of destroying the enemy team's core.
For those who are new to this style of gameplay, Warlander may be a bit overwhelming. Players must work with their team to defeat the opposing team and complete goals along the way. With a few helpful tips for beginners, getting started in the game and developing successful strategies and tactics will be much easier.
7 Stick To The Assigned Role
When players first spawn into the game, they'll likely be ready to go and jump into the fray. However, their squad has a chosen role. When loading, the squad will typically be given the option to select Assault Squad, Castle Guard, or Spec Ops. Despite any overlap these roles may have with one another, the player will need to do the job of the one selected to ensure their squad's victory.
If Assault Squad is chosen, their focus should be on reducing enemy ranks. Castle Guard is all about preventing the enemy from storming the stronghold. This means building defenses and being proactive. Spec Ops would benefit greatly from keeping a tight hold on the catapult. If members of the squad fail to perform their selected role, there is a very strong chance the squad, as a whole, will fail the objective.
6 Focus On The Objective, Not Personal Gains
Warlander is a team-based game, which means players cannot simply go off and do their own thing once they spawn on the map. There will be objectives for their squad to complete, and each player is expected to contribute to the squad's overall success.
Players should not be focused on their own personal gains or score. This means they should remain focused and stay with their team. Doing this will prevent the objective from failing because not enough team members were focused on it.
5 Protect The Catapult
While it is essential for every player to perform the role of their given squad, even if they are not Spec Ops, they must ensure the enemy does not get the catapult. This weapon is critical to the success of the entire team, regardless of which squad the player is on.
Building up excellent defenses on the Castle Guard squad won't make a difference if the enemy seizes the catapult. It will simply destroy everything that has been built up within minutes. This is one of the few times that players must step out of their roles to ensure the success of the entire team.
4 Mix Up The Squad
When players form their squads, they cannot create a squad of all one class and expect to succeed. Chances are, the enemy team will have a well-rounded squad to counter with. If this happens, the uniform squad will be quickly crushed because it cannot compete with its opponent.
The best option for success is always having at least one of every class in a squad. Two warriors is ideal, as they are the powerhouses for damage output. By mixing up the squad with a member from each class, players will have much more success at facing off with enemy teams.
3 Watch Out For The Idol Of Cataclysm
Players will want to keep an eye out for a banner that may pop up during the game announcing the arrival of the Idol of Cataclysm. This is a critical moment because they do not want their enemies to get control over the idol. The Idol of Cataclysm has various effects, which include the ability to summon a giant robot and summoning a powerfully destructive meteor shower that will destroy the team's base.
The team that gains control over this powerful idol can therefore turn the tide in their favor, winning the battle. Players must act quickly to ensure they don't lose to their opponents in a fiery blast of destruction when they see the banner announcing it.
2 Don't Rush Headlong Into Battle
One of the most important things for players to remember and possibly need to adjust to is being part of a team instead of just a solo player. As team members, their actions affect everyone on the team, not just themselves. So, instead of just rushing ahead into battle alone, they need to devise a strategy that helps the entire team. They don't want to get into a situation where they are outnumbered.
They will need to consider their squad role and evaluate how they can perform their role to achieve the best results. For example, as an Assault Squad member, they should be looking at how they can effectively thin the ranks of Mages and Clerics to make it safe for everyone to make a full-frontal assault.
1 Use The Barrage Skill
Players have a default Barrage skill that allows them to focus on a target and send flaming arrows at it. On its own, it doesn't appear to be all that powerful; however, it can be an amazing team effort.
While one player focuses on a target, other players can join in and sync up. The result is a massively powerful attack that deals severe damage once enough allies are involved. Players will need to remember how this skill is really supposed to be used to make the most out of it.
Warlander is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
