Warriors: Abyss is set to receive a new update this month, along with a new playable character who has yet to be revealed. Shadow-dropped during PlayStation's State of Play in February, Warriors: Abyss is an isometric roguelike that's home to 100 playable characters from Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises. The game is commonly likened to 2022's hit indie roguelike Vampire Survivors and is a perfect fit for the Warriors franchise, as it sees players mow down waves of enemies in true Musou fashion.
It's already been a busy year for Koei Tecmo so far, and there are no signs of slowing down for the Japanese game publisher. Dynasty Warriors Origins kicked off Koei Tecmo's year in January, with the smaller roguelike spinoff Warriors: Abyss following up not even a full month later. One of the publisher's other popular action franchises, Ninja Gaiden, is also making a comeback. It showed up big at Xbox's Developer Direct showcase in January with a Ninja Gaiden 4 reveal and the Ninja Gaiden 2 Black shadow drop. With Ninja Gaiden 4 planned to release later this year, Koei Tecmo is also partnering with Blasphemous studio The Game Kitchen on a 2D action Ninja Gaiden entry, called Ragebound, expected to release this summer.
6 Beginner Tips For Warriors: Abyss
New to Warriors: Abyss? With these beginner tips, players can make their way through the underworld without a hitch.
Just a couple of weeks after the release of Warriors: Abyss, Koei Tecmo announced the game will receive a new update as well as a new playable character in March. On Twitter, Koei Tecmo detailed this new March update, highlighting some of the improvements players can enjoy. The biggest improvement increases the odds of players finding unique weapons in mission reward chests, makes Warriors: Abyss' Formations more accessible, and the game's performance will also be boosted on Nintendo Switch. Currently, there isn't a specific date for the next update, but it would make sense for the update to be rolled out sooner rather than later.
Warriors: Abyss Reveals March Update and Mystery Character
As for the new character, Koei Tecmo followed up its original March update tweet with a Pokemon-style tease of the mystery hero's silhouette. Accompanying the image is a quote presumably from the character that reads "To quell Gouma and his rebellion, I'll need the help of more than just the heroes of Jin." Some fans believe the character is from Koei Tecmo's Atelier franchise, with one Redditor noticing that Koei Tecmo added a black square to the silhouette, and that the character is Ryza from Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout. Players will be able to find out who this mystery character is for certain once Warriors: Abyss' March update rolls out.
It seems that, with a wealth of franchises and characters to pull from, Koei Tecmo is planning on adding even more faces to Warriors: Abyss' already massive 100-hero roster, and players should be able to expect even more heroes in the future. Some fans want to see more popular Koei Tecmo characters come to Warriors: Abyss. Perhaps Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hayabusa will make an appearance in the game as Ninja Gaiden 4 nears its release later this year.
