Summary
- New leak suggests Haunting of Verdansk event returning to Warzone.
- In-game files suggest the event is returning later this year, likely in October.
- The event previously added a nighttime version of Verdansk and a Zombie Royale mode.
The iconic Haunting of Verdansk event may be returning to Call of Duty: Warzone later this year, as new files for the event have recently been added to the game. The Haunting of Verdansk first debuted in Call of Duty: Warzone in 2020 with the launch of Modern Warfare Season 6. While the event would go on to return simply as "The Haunting" in later years, the absence of Verdansk meant it failed to find the same level of success.
After a nearly four-year absence, Verdansk finally made its return to Call of Duty: Warzone last month with the beginning of Season 3. The iconic map launched alongside Call of Duty: Warzone in March 2020, before being replaced by the controversial Caldera in December 2021 with the release of Call of Duty: Vanguard Season 1. Numerous Battle Royale maps would come and go over the years, including Vondel, Urzikstan, and Al Mazrah, but all failed to recapture the magic of Verdansk. Thankfully, the map is again available to play and will continue receiving big content updates with new seasons of Black Ops 6 and beyond.

Activision and the Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile developers share some bad news regarding the future of the game as Season 3 comes to a close.
Warzone's Haunting of Verdansk Event Likely Returning
With Verdansk now finally back in Warzone, it looks like Call of Duty's iconic Haunting of Verdansk event is also set to return. According to leaker and data miner COD Warfare, certain features and elements for the event are slowly being added to the game's files, which suggests it will be returning later this year. Given that this is, obviously, a Halloween event, it's expected to once again arrive in October. The current release schedule for new seasons also suggests the event will return during Black Ops 6 Season 6, which will likely be the game's final season.
As for what the event will bring to both Black Ops 6 and Warzone remains a mystery. A fan favorite from the original Haunting of Verdansk event included a nighttime version of the iconic Warzone map, but it's currently unknown if it will be returning with the event. Another fan favorite was Zombie Royale, which brought an "undead twist" to the standard Battle Royale mode by turning Operators into Zombies with various different power-ups. The mode has gone on to return multiple times over the years, which means there's a strong chance it will once again be available this Halloween.
While Call of Duty's Haunting of Verdansk event is a fan favorite, recent events have received far more criticism from players. The recent High Art event for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, for example, has been blasted by players who are tired of the countless weed-themed cosmetics being added to the game. The event saw Hollywood actor and comedian Seth Rogen added to the shooter as a playable operator, but fans say the constant addition of weed-themed bundles is "overdone."
