Wasteland 3 has received a number of post-launch updates, including new modes and features. Now, Wasteland 3 has revealed its upcoming first major narrative DLC, titled The Battle of Steeltown.

Wasteland 3,  released in August of last year from inXile Entertainment, is the newest entry in the legendary post-apocalyptic CRPG series. Wasteland 3 was well received upon release, putting players in control of a small group of survivors in a ravaged, post-apocalyptic world where they have to make moral decisions and survive turn-based tactical combat against other survivor groups.

The largest update Wasteland 3 has received up to now was a permadeath mode, but now The Battle of Steeltown, releasing on June 3, will bring players to an entirely new location with its own complete narrative to play through. The expansion takes place at the Steeltown manufacturing complex, where all manufactured tech in the state of Colorado came from until it recently stopped shipping anything without explanation.

Players are sent to investigate just what is happening and find themselves embroiled in a complicated struggle between striking workers, bandits, and management. The expansion adds all-new characters, combat scenarios, and a branching narrative that is reactive to all of the decisions previously made by players.

The Battle of Steeltown brings with it a couple of new combat mechanics to Wasteland 3 as well, including telegraphed attacks that deal heavy damage but have to be announced to the enemy beforehand, stacking status effects, elemental shields, and even non-lethal weapons that let players solve combat encounters a new way with entirely new consequences. The expansion also brings additions to the base game, expanding it with new enemies, weapons and armor, and even world map encounters. The expansion can also be played in single-player or co-op and scales appropriately to a player's level, so players can experience it at any point in the base game's campaign.

The expansion looks like a big addition to the game for Wasteland 3 fans, and while those who play the game through Xbox Game Pass still have to purchase the DLC, they at least get 10% off. The new location look a compelling addition, and a new narrative experience should give players more of to enjoy from Wasteland 3.  Plus, expanding the game's combat system and encounters makes the base game even more complete and intricate. With inXile also confirmed to be working on a new RPG, it will be interesting to see what else the future has in store for Wasteland 3 and inXile.

Wasteland 3 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with The Battle of Steeltown releasing on June 3.
