Wayfinder is a brand new online co-op adventure game that features a colorful cast of characters. Each of them has their own unique abilities and stats which drastically change the way they play. Each character will be suited to a specific kind of player, so it's worthwhile understanding how they work beforehand. Newcomers should be aware of how each character works, and what they can contribute to the team.

As players venture across the beautiful but corrupted world of Evenor, they will encounter a variety of formidable foes and monsters that only become more fearsome as the game progresses. It's a good idea to stick with a single Wayfinder for the majority of game to build on their stats and weapons. Here's everything new players need to know about all the Wayfinders currently in the game, and what each of them brings to the table.

Wingrave

Wingrave Posing With His Shield

Probably the easiest Wayfinder to play, Wingrave is essential for keeping a team alive when encountering hordes of enemies. He is a support character, capable of withstanding a tremendous amount of damage thanks to his staggering defense stats. While he may look like a typical tank archetype, he actually doubles as a healer thanks to his Judgment and Divine Aegis abilities.

Wingrave is incredibly slow, and his Bastion sword can feel a little cumbersome to use, so he really isn't that viable for solo runs. However, he shines when blocking projectiles and buffing others as part of a tight-knit team. With that being said, his Righteous Strike does still allow him to knock over enemies, which is a great offensive move for stopping faster foes in their tracks.

Abilities

  • Righteous Strike: Striking an enemy will cause them to explode, and will heal Wingrave and any nearby allies.
  • Radiant Pulse: Creates a shield that blocks projectiles and enhances allies defense.
  • Judgment: Enemies who become marked by Judgment will heal allies who attack them.
  • Divine Aegis: Forms a barrier that makes all allies standing inside it invulnerable. Also heals over time.

Silo

Silo From Wayfinder

Players who love picking off enemies from afar with quick and precise sniper shots need to try out Silo, the marksman of the team. While he may be a little more squishy than the other Wayfinders, Silo's kit is dedicated to keeping enemies at bay. His bombs and Arc Nemesis ability can slow enemies to a crawl, turning them into sitting ducks.

Silo isn't the easiest character to pick up. His weapon ability, Deadeye, opens up weak spots for Silo to aim for, resulting in guaranteed critical hits. Silo can also switch to melee combat if he needs to, though he is much better at sitting back and controlling small enemy groups with his class abilities and trusty Longshot rifle.

Abilities

  • Fire Bomb: Throw a bomb that deals damage over time.
  • Oil Bomb: Toss a bomb that leaves a pool of oil, slowing down enemies while also causing damage.
  • Proto-Clone: Dash away, leaving a clone to distract enemies.
  • Arc Nemesis: Send out EGG to shock and slow all nearby enemies.

Niss

Niss

Niss is tricky to use, and she requires a lot of practice to use effectively. But as soon as players get to grips with her fast movement and teleportation abilities, they can make quick work of enemies without taking a scratch. Niss is the definition of a hit-and-run character, using a combination of fast strikes and evasive techniques to deal quick bouts of damage before slipping away unharmed.

Her passive ability, Lingering Shadow, grants Niss extra attack power each time she executes a dodge. Players should prioritize abilities like Umbral Aura and Vengeful Shade to quickly evade enemies before landing an attack of their own. This means Niss acts as a great decoy who can keep foes occupied while the rest of her team deals the most damage. She's incredibly versatile so long as players can click with her style of gameplay.

Abilities

  • Shadow Step: Dash through multiple enemies at once. Leaves behind a clone that attacks enemies.
  • Umbral Aura: Niss' next three dodges pierce nearby enemies with a shadow.
  • Vengeful Shade: Briefly become immune and deal damage to enemies directly in front of Niss.
  • Gloom Shroud: For a few seconds, Shadow Step can be used for free.

Senja

Senja From Wayfinder

Senja is a no-nonsense, close combat brawler who uses her mighty Colossus greatsword to clobber any monsters who dare get in her way. Her kit revolves around her weapon ability, which buffs the next ability she uses after executing a quick strike. This allows her to output a devastating amount of damage as long as players switch between this and her regular attacks.

Like Niss, she can act as a decoy thanks to her Gain Favor ability. Since the ability also buffs the team, it makes her incredibly versatile. As a character, Senja loves nothing more than showing off, and this is reflected in her gameplay. She can charge up attacks like Gladiator Pummel, which will raise her defense and prevent her from getting staggered, all while showboating to her aspiring fans. The constant switching between abilities while keeping track of stamina cost can take a little getting used to. But if players can keep up with her, Senja can be near game-breaking for those who keep all of her techniques in mind.

Abilities

  • Gladiator Pummel: Charge up a forward punch that also boosts next weapon attack.
  • Gain Favor: This Charged ability provokes enemies while also buffing Senja and nearby allies.
  • Lightning Grasp: Pull enemies towards Senja using a streak of lightning.
  • Grand Finale: Senja deals massive damage by charging forward with a lightning spear, instantly filling up her crowd favor.

Kyros

Kyros From Wayfinder

Kyros is more formidable than the average mage, and can turn the tides of a fight with a single ability. He excels at dealing with crowds thanks to his large-radius Savage Rake and Arcane Harvest weapon ability, which steals Ability Power from enemies. Since Kyros depends on his abilities to handle enemies, Arcane Harvest is crucial. It can recharge his techniques so long as it is used sparingly.

If players want to make the most of Kyros, they need to focus on using Siphon Radiant to harvest Arcane Fragments. These can then be consumed to use Savage Rake at no extra cost. Balancing all of this can be a little tricky when playing solo, but when he's part of an effective team, Kyros can prove to be an essential asset who becomes a ton of fun to play once players get past the steep learning curve.

Abilities

  • Savage Rake: Kyros swipes all enemies in front of him. This ability can be used for free when enough Arcane Fragments are obtained.
  • Siphon Radiant: This AOE attack damages enemies and absorbs arcane power.
  • Arcane Focus: Marks enemies, who then explode to cause AOE damage when attacked.
  • Hand of Reckoning: Deal massive damage in a large radius around Kyros.

Venomess

Venomess Character In Wayfinder

Potentially the most versatile Wayfinder in the game, Venomess can gradually melt enemy health bars while healing her allies in the process. As the name suggests, Venomess is all about poisoning enemies, which she can do through her abilities and her Nightshade rifle. Her defense is incredibly low, so rather than staying in the midst of combat for too long, it's best to use her Venom Thrusters to escape before things get too hairy.

Venomess won't kill enemies with a single hit. She is more suited for a support role, weakening enemies for the rest of the team to finish off. Stacking poison onto enemies is an essential part of her game-plan. This will determine how much health is restored to allies after using the Transfusion ability, and how long it will take for an enemy to die. Therefore, in the case of large swarms, players will need to keep track of how many stacks have been applied during all the chaos going on around them. All of this makes Venomess a tough, but very rewarding, Wayfinder to play.

Abilities

  • Transfusion: Fire lock-on poison needles. Allies will gain health when attacking poisoned enemies, depending on the amount of stacks.
  • Vampiric Blast: Throw a poisonous bomb that damages enemies and heals allies.
  • Venom Thrusters: Dash away, leaving a poison cloud behind to damage enemies.
  • Deep Breath: Create a giant explosion filled with empowered venom that can stack up to 5 times. These count as additional stacks for Transfusion and weapon hits.

Wayfinder is available now on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, and PC.
