Power Rangers is one of the most popular Tokusatsu series of all time. There have been some truly formidable Power Rangers over the years, but not every Ranger is created equal. Certain Power Rangers are only remembered for their inability and lack of skills, rather than their formidability.

A few Power Rangers, like Billy Cranston, are even known for their relative weakness. Cranston is one of the smartest Power Rangers in the franchise, but Trini Kwan literally dies to save his life. There are other similar instances where certain Rangers just don't measure up to their companions. Fortunately, even if a Power Ranger isn't as powerful as their teammates, they are probably somewhat endearing in one way or another.

10 Billy Cranston Is More Focused on His Brains Than Brawn

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Billy Cranston in Power Rangers

When it comes to intelligent Power Rangers, there is no one more gifted than Billy Cranston, The Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger. Sadly, his intelligence is a crux largely used to make up for his lack of combative abilities. Compared to a normal person, Cranston is still entirely impressive, but compared to his fellow Rangers, he's not even close. There's a reason he decided to take on a largely supporting role in later seasons.

The Blue Rangers are often some of the best supports on any given Power Rangers team, but some are far more popular (and better) than others.

Billy has a lot of heart, but he often gets himself into situations he cannot save himself from. He famously is one of the main reasons Trini Kwan loses her life in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Forever and Always. He eventually mentors Trini's daughter while attempting to overcome his guilt, but many feel that he should've just retired from action altogether. That said, he is a pivotal figure on the Rangers' team and regularly creates technology that turns the tide in the Rangers' favor.

9 Sydney "Syd" Drew Initially Prioritizes Her Looks Over the Safety of Her Fellow Rangers

Power Rangers: S.P.D.

Syd Drew is the S.P.D. Pink Ranger and is initially more worried about her appearance than the care of her fellow Ranger. Despite the ability to morph her body into various forms, she initially refuses to use the power because of how it makes her look. This level of narcissism is somewhat out of place for the Power Rangers. Drew eventually finds her place on the Rangers, but it takes a bit before the audience warms up to her.

The Pink Ranger is typically an often overlooked member of the team, but that doesn't stop them from being absolute assets when push comes to shove.

In terms of physical strength, Syd is somewhat gifted, but her overall abilities are severely lacking. She begins the show as an S.P.D. Cadet, but shares the same level of skill as the S.P.D. Yellow and Red Ranger, who have no formal training. Syd is definitely the heart of the S.P.D. Team, but she isn't why they are so successful in battle.

8 Zoey Reeves Can Only Morph into Animals With Jumping or Leaping-Based Abilities

Power Rangers: Beast Morphers

Zoey Reeves has one of the least interesting transformations out of any animal-based iteration of Power Rangers. Her abilities primarily revolve around jumping. Jumping really high, sure, but still jumping. Reeves has some other interesting abilities, but they are mostly overshadowed by the fact that her main power is to jump.

The Yellow Rangers aren't necessarily known for being the most powerful, but Reeves still ranks poorly comparatively. No other character has the same potential, only to be severely limited by their abilities and Zords. There were definitely more interesting ways to have a jumping-centric character, but Zoey ultimately doesn't reach her mark.

7 Trip Is One of the Most Naive and Gullible Rangers in the Franchise's History

Power Rangers: Time Force

Trip is the first Power Ranger who isn't from Earth or a human colony. Trip actually comes from a species of aliens without secrets, which leads to his greatest weakness. Trip is extremely gullible. He is often tricked by both teammates and enemies alike, since he has absolutely no concept of lying or stretching the truth.

In terms of Ranger Powers, Trip is still relatively run-of-the-mill. However, his naivety prevents him from being considered an all-around success. There are certainly less powerful Green Power Rangers, but those same Rangers wouldn't actively believe the opponents they were fighting against. Thankfully, Trip eventually picks up on the concept and becomes less gullible overtime.

6 Kai Chen Takes Being a Rigid Rule Follower to the Negative Next Level

Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy

Kai Chen in Power Rangers

There are some pretty rigid rule followers in the Power Rangers, especially the Blue Rangers. However, they all take a second-fiddle to Kai Chen. The Lost Galaxy Blue Ranger is so focused on the rules that it is an actual detriment to his character. Moreover, outside his strict rule-following nature, he is relatively uninspired.

Power Rangers Lost Galaxy is one of the least popular early seasons of the franchise. A large part of that likely comes from the cast's unlikeablity. Chen and his companions do fine as the Lost Galaxy Rangers, but he and others simply feel like hollow archetypes of previous popular characters. Ultimately, there aren't many Power Rangers fans who would call Chen their favorite character, mostly because his time with the Rangers is uneventful.

5 Carlos Vallerte Suffers From Near Constant Insecurity

Power Rangers: Turbo

Carlos Vallerte

Carlos Vallerte participates in some of the most popular Power Rangers series in the franchise, but he is constantly marred by his insecurity. Despite being a literal Power Ranger, Vallerte is always questioning if he's good enough or the right pick for the team. This insecurity carries with him in both of his popular adaptations, making it seem like there was no growth between the seasons.

Vallerte mostly suffers due to the likability and power of his companions, as well as his self-deprecating attitude. He might be both the Green and Black Rangers, but he's not the Ranger people remember for those colors. Nevertheless, he consistently tries his best for the team, despite suffering from an outward and an apparent lack of confidence.

4 Dax Lo Is Extremely Immature and Distracts from the Overall Mission

Power Rangers: Overdrive

Dax Lo

There are classic Power Ranger class clowns, and then there is Dax Lo from Power Rangers Operation Overdrive. He seems to lack the ability to take anything seriously and even dates one of the minor antagonists of the season. Although the circumstances were beyond his control, and it was only briefly, this fact is still extremely off-putting.

Dax Lo is another Ranger whose main ability is the power to jump higher than normal. However, Dax does have the ability to trigger his super agility, which allows him to dodge most attacks. Sadly, Dax can't seem to output the same level of power that he can dodge. He would probably be a powerful Ranger, if he could ever take anything seriously.

3 Ziggy Grover Initially Lacks any Formal Training

Power Ranger: RPM

Ziggy Grover

Ziggy Grover only becomes the Green RPM Ranger so that Venjinx doesn't gain access to the Ranger's abilities. He initially holds an audition for the role of the Green Ranger before being tricked by one of Venjinx's soldiers. Grover then becomes the Green Ranger to prevent the powers from falling into the wrong hands.

Green may have joined the Power Rangers as an extra member to the group, but quickly became one of the teams' core colors.

Compared to his fellow RPM Rangers, Ziggy lacks any formal training or, frankly, any prominent fighting ability. He has a lot of heart and is shown to care for the team deeply, but that cannot make up for his lack of skill. Ziggy eventually grows to a similar level to the other Rangers, but most of that is due to his morpher and not any actual skill of his own. Ultimately, Grover probably would've been better off remaining as a support character.

2 Emily Plays the Damsel in Distress Role a Little Too Well

Power Rangers: Samurai

The Samurai Rangers are some of the least popular of the Power Rangers and Emily suffers worse than most. She sometimes plays the damsel in distress role within the Rangers, and is often considered considerably weaker than her companions. Emily wasn't even originally supposed to be the Yellow Samurai Ranger, which is a point of insecurity for the Ranger.

MMPR Yellow Ranger Trini, Yellow Wild Force Ranger, and Yellow Dino Thunder Ranger
Power Rangers: 10 Best Yellow Rangers, Ranked

The Yellow Rangers are usually the glue which holds each Power Rangers team together, but some are clearly more talented than others.

Ultimately, Emily is one of the weakest Yellow Rangers in the entire franchise. She is undoubtedly the heart of the Samurai Rangers, but that doesn't make up for her severe lack of skill. It's true she has much less experience than the other Rangers, but she still spends her life preparing as her sister's understudy. Sadly, this training never really pays off within the series.

1 Justin Stewart Is Much Younger Than Typical Power Rangers

Power Rangers: Turbo

Justin Stewart

Justin Stewart is the Turbo Blue Ranger and widely considered the weakest of the Power Rangers, for one main reason. He is a literal child. The series attempted to mirror the similar casting from Super Sentai, but the choice ultimately did not translate well. In the end, Stewart becomes a much weaker Ranger than any of his previous or future iterations.

It's strange to think that a kid was ever chosen to be a Power Ranger, but the series often attempts to mimic the original Super Sentai where it can. Stewart is an especially popular character, especially among younger audiences, but that doesn't justify throwing a young boy into the fray. Power Ranges are regularly in life-threatening danger, and Justin Stewart seems like they should be focusing more on homework than protecting themselves from active harm.
