Summary

  • Some Resident Evil bosses are not as strong or challenging as others, relying on their appearance to intimidate players.
  • Players can often exploit weaknesses or use specific strategies to defeat certain bosses more easily.
  • Weaker bosses can make the game less intense and provide entertainment, even if they lack a real challenge.

Resident Evil has made a career from scaring players witless for decades with its survival horror experiences that put them through the wringer. Eerie atmospheres, claustrophobic environments, and flesh-eating zombies all play an integral part. Even controlling a gun-toting hero does little to alleviate the tension as players white-knuckle their controllers at whatever may lurk ahead.

8 Easiest Resident Evil Games, Ranked

The Resident Evil series can definitely seem a little intimidating to new fans, but some of the games are actually very easy to complete.

Sometimes, the threat is much bigger than a zombie, dog, or other infected mutant, and it might instead be one of the terrifying boss monsters that are another hallmark of the RE franchise. These bosses are usually colossal with sharp maws and the strength to pack a walloping punch...in most cases. But some of these bosses are not as strong as others, their appearance being the only intimidating aspect of them. What are the easiest Resident Evil bosses?

Updated on February 9, 2024 by Ewan Lewis: Resident Evil is responsible for some of the greatest and most intense boss fights in gaming history; however, not every encounter packs a punch. Occasionally, Capcom throws out an encounter that lacks any real challenge, even if it is still entertaining.

It's a good thing that Capcom made the Salazar boss fight much more challenging in the remake of Resident Evil 4 because he wasn't too threatening in the original, so long as players knew how to tackle him, that is. If Leon sprays enough bullets into the giant orange eye on Salazar's mutated face, he would then need to deal enough damage to his exposed form to take him out for good, though admittedly, the boss does have a few attacks that can easily trip the player up if they aren't careful.

Salazar's pretty large health pool does at least make him somewhat of a challenge to defeat, but what helped out a lot with this is the rocket launcher that can be found a few chapters before the encounter. Not all players might be expecting the fight to be around the corner though, so while Salazar could be at least slightly tricky without the rockets, anyone who decides to keep it in their attache case will have a much easier time.

The main draw of the more action-oriented Resident Evil 5 was the co-op and combat aspects, which were more of a focus for this title than horror. Teaming up with Sheva, Chris travels to Africa to investigate, uncovering the newest bioweapon Uroboros, and discovering that ex-S.T.A.R.S. Team leader Albert Wesker is responsible for the outbreak.

In the early hours of the game, Chris and Sheva encounter Uroboros Mkono, a horrific mutated creature that seems impervious to all forms of damage: but fire. This one caveat gives the Mkono a major weakness and makes it one of the weakest bosses, as all players need to do is to kite it into the incinerator, press the button, and watch it burn.

9 Del Lago

Resident Evil 4

Leon aims a harpoon at Del Lago's mouth in Resident Evil 4 remake

One of the earlier fights in Resident Evil 4 may be one of the most memorable, but it isn't the strongest. Del Lago, which translates to "from the lake," is a giant monstrous mutant that is on a diet of corpses, giving it a taste for flesh and blood. Unfortunately for Leon, he has to cross the lake to continue his search for the President's daughter, Ashley Graham.

Once about halfway across, Del Lago surges to the surface, nearly capsizing Leon into the water. As a resourceful and brave individual, he immediately begins chucking harpoons like they are javelins while it is on the surface, and steering the boat to avoid debris while it is submerged. The boss fight is very rinse and repeat, so once players have the pattern down, it is all too easy to make Del Lago fish food.

8 Yawn

Resident Evil

Jill facing the giant snake Yawn

The original survival horror experience saw S.T.A.R.S. Members Wesker, Barry, Jill and Chris exploring the Spencer mansion after they shelter in there from a group of rabid zombie dogs, and encounter even more horrors within. Aside from humanoid zombies and dogs, there are plenty of other monstrosities hiding within the mansion including Lisa, Tyrant, and Yawn, a giant snake.

This snake has a penchant for poisoning its prey, but players can easily circumvent this danger by simply kiting Yawn around the room and taking potshots when the opportunity presents itself. As such, Yawn remains one of the weakest boss fights in Resident Evil.

Birkin just doesn't know when to quit, returning time and again throughout Claire's story, rising every time she drops him. As she is making her daring escape from the NEST with Sherry, he rises for one final fight, even more mutated and monstrous than before, becoming a mass of flesh and maws that violates all laws of anatomy. From looks alone, one might assume this creature to be one of the strongest, but they would be mistaken in thinking so.

Armed with an arsenal of guns, a can-do attitude, and a massive mini-gun, players will soon see Birkin is more bark than bite. Considering it is the final fight of the RE2 Remake, it is surprising how weak this boss proved to be in the end.

Other than having a name that is tough to spell and pronounce, Draghignazzo doesn't have many strengths as a boss. It appears more than once to Jill and Parker aboard the Queen Zenobia in this spin-off title in all its shambling, monstrous glory. Its towering stature and tough tortoise-like shell may make it seem like it's a tough cookie to crack, but Draghignazzo is a surprisingly weak boss fight.

So long as players maneuver away from its attacks and only fire at the soft parts of its body, they will find this boss fight a breeze. If they pepper it with enough bullets, Draghignazzo will be stunned, leaving it open for further attacks to chip away at its health.

After running through a swampy obstacle course and avoiding a fish-like version of Moreau, Ethan must then take on the hideous monstrosity on foot, but unfortunately, he's not that threatening, despite how gigantic he is. The arena where the fight takes place is quite small, but it's also very narrow with plenty of corners which Ethan can use to his advantage to try and avoid Moreau's slow and sluggish attacks.

Unlike the terrifying Lady Dimitrescu, who constantly changes throughout the fight, Moreau can seem pretty stale, since all he does is stalk the player and occasionally spits out projectiles. The only challenging part of the fight is when Moreau creates bubbly walls that can stop Ethan in his tracks, but so long as players keep the grenade launcher handy on the weapon wheel, these become much less of an issue.

This is specifically referring to the first encounter in the garage near the start of the game. Despite Ethan being pretty ill-prepared for a boss fight at this point, only possessing a knife and a pistol with barely any ammo, even then, it's very easy to defeat Jack when he traps Ethan in the garage.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - The Best Weapons, Ranked

In Resident Evil 7, Ethan needs a lot of firepower to overcome the many enemies that stand in his way. Players can't go wrong with these choices.

All players need to do is aim for the head and Jack will be staggered every few shots, allowing Ethan to run around the garage and pick up any extra ammo or chem fluid lying around. If the player is quick enough, they can also simply grab the keys on the desk, hop into the car, and avoid a large chunk of the fight entirely. Still, while this fight is pretty simple, his second encounter later down the line is a whole different story.

3 U-8

Resident Evil 5

Chris Aiming At The U-8

Not to be mixed up with U-3, the scorpion-like creature designed by the Los Illuminados in Resident Evil 4, U-8 looks just as scary in terms of design, but it's surprisingly very easy to overcome. The U-8 is a giant B.O.W. That takes the form of a spider that latches onto the lift that Chris and Sheva are riding, but it doesn't take long to offload the extra weight by aiming for its glaring red weak spots located on each of its legs.

Giant obvious weak points have become somewhat of a meme within the Resident Evil games, but U-8 takes the cake for being the biggest example of this, to the point where it's nearly impossible to miss regardless of the weapon being used. When the U-8 is damaged enough, it will drop down for Chris or Sheva to toss a grenade into its mouth, but he can also be finished off by simply filling up his cheeks with bullets.

2 Donna Beneviento/Angie

Resident Evil Village

Donna Benevento's doll Angie lurking over the player.

To rescue Rosemary in Resident Evil Village, Ethan must contend with the Four Lords who all embody a different subgenre of horror, with Beneviento diverging into psychological territory. Ethan loops through a nightmare, solving puzzles and running away from a giant demon baby that drags itself over the floor, crying out for him.

While this section is undoubtedly the scariest part of RE8, the boss fight that concludes this segment is by no means difficult. Ethan is faced with a deadly game of hide and seek as Angie hides in rooms full of giggly dolls, and if he does not find her in time, the dolls attack. But the damage they deal is negligible, dealing less than the other bosses face, and Angie will spawn in one of the predetermined locations. Finding and putting an end to her is all too easy, making her one of the weakest in the whole series.
