Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2 doesn’t have an official release date yet, but plenty of teasers have kept fans excited about the return of the gloomy family. Along with her daughter, Morticia Addams has always been an iconic character in the franchise, and this time, viewers will get to see the Gothic mistress make a change from her usual breathtaking attire.
Morticia's dress sense has always turned heads due to her elegant and vampire-like style in past Addams Family adaptations. Created by cartoonist Charles Addams, the artist gave her the name "Morticia," to signify "death" or "mortician," and this dark style has been mirrored in the psychic's clothes to a T. Known for her long black hair, black eyeliner, and her love for glamorous black gowns, Morticia isn't usually one to mix in a few different shades but in Wednesday season 2, the family's reserved matriarch can be seen wearing something very different in the show's behind the scenes images.
Morticia Addams' Tradition of Wearing Black Changes in Wednesday Season 2
In the behind-the-scenes teaser clip of Wednesday season 2 from Netflix’s 2024 Geeked Week, Morticia Addams can be seen in a new outfit that has broken a long-running custom for the death-obsessed character. In the short teaser for its upcoming season, Morticia can be seen getting out of the car as she arrives at Nevermore Academy, but instead of her normal entirely black attire, she is instead wearing a blood-red dress. Although her favorite color of black is still in the mix, the sudden change could symbolize either some kind of dangerous situation or, that fans will get to see more of Morticia's fiery passion for Gomez come through more in season 2.
Red has also been the symbol of death for Morticia, as viewers got to see her cutting the head of a red rose in season one at the grave of Garrett Gates. If this logic is followed, Morticia's new red outfit could also point to her mourning the death of someone close to her because, let's face it, she isn't going to waste that treasured emotion over just anyone. Following in her mother's dark footsteps is Wednesday, who also loves nothing more than to dress as if she is attending daily funerals. Not only has the star of the show inherited her elegant mother's gloomy dress sense, but she also obtained her psychic powers, for better and for worse.
Recently, Netflix released a teaser of Wednesday season 2 which gave fans a look at the outside of Willowhill Psychiatric Hospital and Wednesday heading inside to find Tyler chained to the wall, so it seems as though this time around, viewers will experience events that are a lot darker than season one. Production for Wednesday season 2 has now finished, with the return to Nevermore Academy slated for release sometime in 2025.
