Netflix's Wednesday season 2 will premiere in August and September 2025, and the new episode titles sound particularly creepy and fun. As fans gear up to watch Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) make her memorable return to Nevermore Academy, they're curious about the loose threads still hanging in the air. Wednesday has to locate her stalker, there needs to be a big update about Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), and viewers need to know what happened when Nevermore Academy was closed. It's hard to wait to revisit this unforgettable setting with secrets everywhere.
Thanks to a recent photo of the Goth teenager with her famous braids standing with some Wednesday season 2 characters, fans know that one beloved Addams Family relative is returning to the popular series. But when they're back in Wednesday's singular, dark, and funny world, what kind of role will they have?

Wednesday Season 2 Images Show Lurch, But This Addams Family Character Needs A More Important Role Than Season 1
Deadline reported on a new Wednesday season 2 image of Wednesday Addams and other members of the Addams Family at Netflix's upfront presentation, which took place in New York City on May 14th, 2025. The photo shows Wednesday with her younger brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), her smart mom Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), her kind-hearted dad Gomez (Luis Guzmán), and her quirky Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen). The image shows a new cast member: Joanna Lumely, who is playing Grandmama. Wednesday's driver and the Addams Family butler Lurch (Joonas Suotamo) is also in the photo.
While it's exciting to see Lurch again, he doesn't have much of a role in season 1, and it would be great to see him play a bigger, more significant, and more memorable role in season 2. It's comforting to know that Lurch is still driving the family around, but he should help Wednesday on her new journey. Lurch could be part of Wednesday's search for her stalker and, since Lurch doesn't talk and mostly grunts, he could hint at some clues. Wednesday and Thing have their own language and manage to get through to each other, and Wednesday and Lurch should do that, too.
It would also be fun to see Lurch and Thing team up, possibly with Grandmama, to protect Wednesday against the stalker. This would not only be a way to integrate Lurch into the plot more, but fans would also be glad to see more scenes of the Addams Family together, joking around and having fun.
Fans have wondered if the Addams Family mansion will be featured, and it would be funny to see Lurch helping Morticia and Gomez at home. Wednesday could also surprise her parents with a visit or go home for the winter holidays in one episode, depending on the timeframe of the episodes. Either way, Lurch needs to be given more of a spotlight, especially since he's so funny and unforgettable. Lurch may not speak, but his eyes and face are expressive, and it would be fun to see him and Wednesday communicate more. While Lurch will no doubt still be driving the family around, it wouldn't make sense to give him such a minor part once again, given how important he is to the history of the Addams Family franchise.
Lurch Was Recast For Wednesday Season 2
George Burcea played Lurch in Wednesday season 1, and the beloved Addams Family character was recast for the second season. Like Thing and Cousin Itt, Lurch has a signature look, and it's hard to imagine the show continuing without him.
Ted Cassidy played Lurch on the TV series The Addams Family, which premiered in 1964. Carel Struycken portrayed the character in the 1991 movie The Addams Family and the 1993 sequel Addams Family Values. The actor came back for the third movie, which was released in 1998.
Fans hope to see more of the Addams Family's history in Wednesday season 2, and including Lurch is a great way to do that. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2022, co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough talked about staying true to what people love about Wednesday's dark, strange, and dynamic family. Millar said:
"I think we definitely wanted to honor the legacy of the Addams Family, and I think it’s something that was important that we do, and we always, always, enjoy doing as well. We think it gives a shoutout to the fans. There’s a nostalgia element to the show as well. I think we also went back to the original Charles Addams illustrations."
