Hollow Knight: Silksong drops the player in the Kingdom of Pharloom, where Hornet is the main protagonist. Even though the base gameplay features are all there from Team Cherry's previous hit game Hollow Knight, the combat and platforming in Silksong have much more depth and are also more enjoyable.
Hornet has a number of attacks and skills that she can perform along with a "Challenge" button. After trying this out for the first time, players might be confused about what it actually does. This is where the guide below will help you.
How to Get a Map in Silksong
To unlock the map, Silksong players must progress far enough into the game to meet a new NPC: Shakra, a cartographer-warrior.
What Does the Challenge Button Do in Silksong?
The "Challenge" button in Silksong essentially performs a taunt action. This means that using it will aggro all enemies that are in proximity to you. This is a niche skill in Hornet's arsenal that players will not have a use for the majority of the time, given the inherent risk of drawing enemies closer. However, since the game features numerous platforming sections, some of which harbor flying enemies that can be quite annoying to deal with, the Challenge gesture becomes a valuable tool.
It allows you to bring these enemies that have not noticed you closer, allowing you to deal with them with ease and turn a frustrating encounter into a simple one. This adds a strategic layer to difficult platforming areas, allowing for more controlled engagements.
If you have Silk on you, the action will consume a small amount of your Silk, and the animation changes slightly as silk threads appear around Hornet, similar to when you use Silk to heal Hornet.
How to Perform the Challenge Gesture in Silksong?
To perform this gesture, you will need to press the R3 or Right Stick on your controller, or the V key if you are playing on a keyboard. If you go to the control scheme of a controller, you will not find "Challenge" mentioned, but it is still there. If you do not want to use the button, you can always assign the key to a different useful action that you have more use for.
