Metaphor: ReFantazio carries over many mechanics from previous Atlus titles, one of which is the calendar and deadline system. While many sections of the game will be fairly on rails, you'll be given long stretches of free time in each town to increase your bonds, complete side quests, and clear the dungeon.

While some side activities have deadlines, none are as important as the deadline for completing each of the main dungeons. Many of the side quests and bounties can be completed later in the game, so it's important to prioritize your time on the main dungeon during a deadline, but what happens if you miss those deadlines?

Metaphor: ReFantazio - Which Royal Virtue Should You Focus On First

There are five Royal Virtues in Metaphor: ReFantazio; but which is the most important one to focus on first?

What Happens If You Miss A Deadline In Metaphor: ReFantazio

Missing a deadline occurs whenever you don't complete the main story dungeon of an area before the required date. When this happens, no matter what deadline it is, you'll get a game over screen. While you'll ideally never want to see a game over screen, there are unique outcomes for missing each deadline, with each one being accompanied by dialogue and cutscenes that can be interesting to watch, much like the bad endings you can get.

If you do miss the deadline and get the game over screen, you'll get the option of returning to the main menu and selecting an old save file or getting sent back a few days to try and complete the dungeon in time. Going back a few days with this option will put you back exactly where you were the morning of that day, with this being the only way of going back to a previous in-game day without using a save file.

  • Gallica will stop you from traveling on the Gauntlet Runner if that trip will make you miss the deadline.
  • You'll get warnings from Gallica a few days before the deadline when traveling by Gauntlet Runner to other locations.
  • If you're in the dungeon on the final day and try to leave, you'll be asked multiple times if you're sure, and will get a game over screen immediately after leaving.

It is highly recommended you make a new save file for the starting day for every stretch of free time. While the game can send you back a few days, it's usually less than a week and you'll sometimes want more days to work with if the particular story dungeon is difficult.

It's possible to complete every story dungeon in a single day, and while not advised you can complete every dungeon on the final day.
