Ready or Not is an intense and tactical FPS video game where players are part of a specialized police SWAT team tasked with investigating heightened criminal activities in the fictional city of Los Sueños, California. They will need to confront harsh, real-world situations, such as corrupt politicians, extremists, human trafficking, and many other illegal activities.

As such, the game is designed to be extremely strategic and challenging to play solo. However, the Ready or Not 1.0 Patch introduced a new Commander mode that takes the single-player experience to a whole new level. It features an interesting new mechanic called the Ironman Mode.

Ready or Not’s Ironman Mode takes up the game’s difficulty by a notch, specifically for beginners. The Ironman Mode is essentially a permadeath mode, which means that if your character dies, their death is permanent – they cannot be revived or brought back to life. Players will simply lose their character forever and their save file will be lost.

The fear of death and losing the character permanently adds a layer of realism to the game, forcing players to carefully approach every situation and think before they act. Those who make it to the end and complete Ironman mode can unlock some exclusive cosmetic rewards.

The Ironman mode is turned off by default, and players have the luxury of retrying if they fail. Hardcore players who want to turn on Ironman mode can do so by following the steps below:

  • Open the Main Menu
  • Go to Singleplayer
  • Find Commander Mode
  • Switch on the Ironman Mode

If they want to go back and play the game normally, players can select the Training Mode option directly under the option for Ironman Mode.

Those who want to beat Ironman Mode can make use of the other new mechanics in Commander mode.

  • Three Save Slots – Everyone in Commander mode gets three save files that allow players to create three different characters to test their survival skills and try out different strategies without risking their Ironman save file.
  • Exfiltration – Once players understand that they won’t succeed in a particular mission, they can simply bail out and cut losses. They may have to head back to the starting area, but it's better than putting the officer’s life in danger.
  • Stress System – To beat Ironman mode, players need to be mindful of their actions as everything they do can affect their teammates’ stress levels and put their lives in danger.
  • Officer Traits – Traits are unlocked as players progress through the game and complete missions with their officers. These special modifiers influence officers and increase their effectiveness in intense situations.
