Alligator Gar Location in Fields of Mistria

In Fields of Mistria, you'll notice that the shadows of fish in the water are different sizes. You'll want to cast your line on every shadow if you plan to fill out the Fish Wing in the museum. One of the larger shadows will net you an Alligator Gar, a winter-exclusive fish. The size of the fish's shadow doens't determine its difficulty when catching it, but it does determine its rarity. The Alligator Gar is a rare winter fish in Fields of Mistria that you'll want to nab before the season ends.

Where to Find Alligator Gar

Alligator Gar Catch Conditions

The Alligator Gar is a pond fish. You can find it on The Eastern Road, which is to the right of Mistria. There are three ponds in the lower-half of the Eastern Road where you can find the Alligator Gar. Remember that the Alligator Gar is a winter fish and has a giant shadow. If you're going after large shadows in any other season, you'll get another fish instead. You also won't be able to get the Alligator Gar by diving.

There's a higher chance of getting Giant Tilapia when fishing in the large shadows in the ponds (winter). If this happens, just leave the area and return to "refresh" the fish. The Alligator Gar is a rare fish, so this may take a few tries, or you may get lucky on your first cast.

It's highly recommended you have the Silver Fishing Rod, as this will allow you to extend your casting range. The giant fish tends to swim to the center of the pond, making it difficult to reach with a regular rod. You can also increase the chances of the Alligator Gar swimming to the bobber by unlocking perks at Caldarus' statue. Here are some recommended perks:

Appealing Reeling (Tier 1, Lv 1): Can be bought with 10 Essence. This will make the bobber attract fish from a greater distance.
Perfect Catch (Tier 2, Lv 15): Can be bought with 40 Essence. The likelihood of Uncommon and Rare fish appearing is increased.

Where to Use Alligator Gar

When to Donate

The Alligator Gar can be donated to the Winter Pond Set at the Museum in The Narrows along with the Flathead Catfish, Burbot, Giant Tilapia, and Tilapia. Considering it's a rare and seasonal fish, you'll want to donate it as soon as you catch your first one. If you've already donated the Alligator Gar, then you can sell it for 100 Tesserae. You can also give the Alligator Gar as a gift, but it's not liked by many people. You'll lower your affection for them more than you would gain affection.
