Iron Ore is one of the most common crafting materials in the Monster Hunter series, and Monster Hunter Wilds brings it back. As soon as players are able to craft and upgrade weapons at the Smithy at their home base, they might quickly realize that Iron Ore is used for a lot of different weapons and armor sets.

Luckily, you can find Iron Ore pretty easily in Monster Hunter Wilds, and this guide will show you how to do just that.

Swimming in Monster Hunter: Yay or Nay?

While Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Tri is one of my favorite monsters, I personally did not enjoy fighting it underwater. Especially if you're using a heavy weapon like the Great Sword, it's literally impossible to do much damage. If you were able to switch your weapons back in the day like you can now in Wilds, things might've been different haha.

During the Village of Whispering Winds questline, you'll eventually get the chance to speak to Gemma at base camp, and she will allow you to upgrade your weapons and armor. She will also give you two pieces of Iron Ore to get started. You'll need to find some on your own if you plan on upgrading more stuff, though.

How to Get Iron Ore in Monster Hunter Wilds

We managed to find a lot of Iron Ore early on in Monster Hunter Wild's Plains environment. If you open up your map and zoom into the world, you'll spot rock icons that say "Mining Outcrop." You can interact with these gathering points and claim all sorts of materials for crafting, including Iron Ore.

If you highlight a Mining Outcrop on your map or any other point for that matter, you can click on the right control stick to set a waypoint. If you ride on top of your Seikret, they will immediately lead you toward the destination, making it very easy to find the materials you need.

In past Monster Hunter games, you had to buy and carry pickaxes in order to mine for gems, but luckily, you don't need anything like that in Monster Hunter Wilds.

We found some in Area 7 of the Plains, but you should be able to find Mining Outcrops all over. It's also worth noting that you can also receive Iron Ore as quest rewards for hunting monsters or through other means. In a short amount of time, you'll find yourself with a lot more Iron Ore than you need.

If you want rarer resources or even just more resources from gathering points, you can try to find equipment with either the Forager's Luck or Geologist skills. The more pieces of equipment you put on with the skill, the more potent the skill will be.
