There are a bunch of different insect eggs to find in Grounded 2, but there's a specific type you need if you're keen to get a Red Soldier Ant buggy. In Grounded 2's Egg Hunt main story quest, you'll need to track down a Red Soldier Ant Egg to make your first buggy using a Hatchery, an invaluable companion for your adventures across Brookhollow Park. However, navigating the Hatchery Anthill can be tricky, as while you'll come across plenty of standard Red Ant Eggs, you'll have to search deep within the maze of tunnels to find Red Soldier Ant Eggs specifically.

You'll also need to gather several other crafting resources to make a Hatchery in Grounded 2 before you can get the Red Soldier Ant Buggy, and making an Ant Nest is also important. If you're struggling with what eggs you need and where to find them, this guide lights the way. It also details how to name your Red Soldier Ant buggy once hatched, plus how to tame and summon it.

Where to Find Red Soldier Ant Eggs in Grounded 2

Red Soldier Ant Egg Location (Hatchery Anthill)

To find Red Soldier Ant Eggs in Grounded 2, it's best to search inside the Hatchery Anthill as part of the Egg Hunt quest, which begins after you get the Hatchery Blueprints in Hatching a Plan, giving you the following recipes:

  • Hatchery
  • Red Soldier Ant Buggy (Tier 1)
  • Ant Nest

You can find the South Entrance to the Hatchery Anthill southeast of the Ranger Station, as pictured above. Follow the maze-like paths deep inside the Anthill until you find red-colored Red Soldier Ant Eggs at the end, ignoring any standard white Red Ant Eggs along the way.

You can find a small group of 5 Red Soldier Ant Eggs in the room past the large Ominent Lab door with the red and green lights and the Red Soldier Ant Egg behind the glass display. To find it, go inside this lab, turn right, and through the door opposite, then follow the red-lit corridor around to the left to find the Red Soldier Ant Eggs by the trolley in the large cave area ahead.

To reach this area, it's easy to get lost, so it's best to follow the wires on the ceiling as a guide, but you'll know you're in the right place once you're past the big 9V Battery in the ground. The video below shows precisely where to go to find Red Soldier Ant Eggs in the Hatchery Anthill, and the route to take starting from just past the 9V Battery:

It's worth noting that you can only carry one Red Soldier Ant Egg at a time to transport it back to your base, plus you'll need to run or fight your way back the way you came. There are many Red Soldier Ants to fight along the way in and out, so make sure you come prepared with armor, torches, weapons, and healing items like Fiber Bandages to top up your health, plus snack on any Grumble Granola Bars while exploring.

Once you've got a Red Soldier Ant buggy, you can get it to do the work and carry a Red Soldier Ant Egg for you. It may also be possible to find other Red Soldier Ant Eggs inside other Anthills across Grounded 2's map, but the Hatchery Anthill is the best starting point.

Although there are plenty of Slime Mold Stalks inside to craft on-the-go Slime Mold Torches while exploring, it's best to bring plenty of torches with you for convenience, as they won't last long. You could also craft a lean-to near the Anthill entrance as a nearby respawn point in case things get hairy, as the game suggests. While exploring any Anthill, it's also worth grabbing other ant loot, such as Red Ant Parts, which you'll need to craft the Omni-Wrench if you don't already have one.

To make a Hatchery in Grounded 2, you'll need one Red Soldier Ant Egg plus the following resources:

  • x6 Weed Stems - obtained by chopping down Dandelions
  • x1 Acorn Top and x5 Acorn Shells - found by busting Acorns near the tree west of the Ranger Outpost.
  • X5 Mite Fuzz - found by defeating Lawn Mites.

Once you've gathered everything above, use the radial crafting menu to craft and place a Hatchery on any suitable surface at your base, adding the Weed Stems one at a time as needed or super-build the structure.

Riding a Red Soldier Ant Buggy in Grounded 2

Once you've got a buggy like the Red Soldier Ant, it becomes your tamed mount with several possible commands and actions:

  • Whistle - calls you Buggy to return to your location.
  • Stay/Follow me - command your buggy to stay in one spot or follow you.
  • Pet - show your buggy some love and affection!
  • Inventory - view and retrieve items from your buggy's storage (30 inventory slots) or move to your backpack.

When riding your buggy, you can also carry a torch, plus perform some attack and defense moves, including simple attacks, charged attacks, blocks, and perfect blocks. Additionally, you can also use the Red Soldier Ant buggy to carry certain items for you, such as Red Soldier Ant Eggs, plus press the sprint button to temporarily run like the wind and cover more ground faster. You can also use Red Soldier Ant buggies to break Dead Roots (Tier 1) in locations like the Snackbar Anthill and Hatchery Anthill, with some of these leading to Mega Milk Molars.

If you return to the Hatchery Anthill on the Red Soldier Ant buggy, other ants will only attack you if you attack first, dismount the buggy, or steal any ant eggs.

How to Name and Summon Your Buggy in Grounded 2

To name your buggy in Grounded 2 and assign it to your summoning wheel, you need to make an Ant Nest using the resources below, which also acts as a cozy spot for it to rest:

  • x6 Weed Stems
  • x6 Clover Leafs
  • x3 Crude Rope
  • x1 Acorn Shell

Once built, you can use the Ant Nest to store your buggy and change its name by selecting the 'Rename' button (RB if playing Grounded 2 on Xbox consoles). You can also use the Ant Nest to assign your buggy to the radial summoning wheel by selecting the 'Summon Option', letting you summon it while out exploring if you don't take it with you, or press 'Withdraw Buggy' to retrieve it from the nest.

Altogether, there are currently six Buggy slots in the Ant Nest, but four ant slots and four spider slots in the summoning wheel. Tap right on the D-pad to summon your chosen buggy while out exploring the park, and it'll come running to meet you. You can also command it to return to its nest by tapping B. Fortunately, if it takes too much damage and gets knocked out in combat, there are several things you can do to revive your buggy and be on your way again.
