The world of Dune Awakening is filled with threats, but none are as dangerous as the gigantic Sandworm that hides underneath the desert. Players are one death by the Sandworm away from losing all their gear and vehicle, wasting hours of progress. However, you may have noticed that stepping into the open does not bring up the Sandworm indicator, and neither does our Goliath friend show up anymore. So, where did the Shai-Hulud go, and why is it missing in Dune Awakening?
This issue has been fixed on the server end, and players can now encounter the Sandworm while stepping into the deserts of Arrakis in Dune Awakening.
Dune Awakening: How To Fast Travel
Players can use the fast travel feature in Dune Awakening to quickly reach different parts of Arrakis via the Ornithopter Pilot, here's how to do it.
Where Is the Sandworm in Dune Awakening?
If players step into the open desert, they won't see our Sandworm friend, the Shai-Hulud, anymore in Dune Awakening. You'll be greeted with the Shai-Hulud Missing notification, followed by a message from the devs, "We're aware that Shai-Hulud is currently missing, we're working on it, and he'll soon be back prowling the sands."
So, that pretty much explains why roaming around Dune Awakening has been so easy lately. The developers are possibly working on tweaking its AI and improving its overall appearance in the game. So, in the meantime, players can freely travel between locations, without worrying about starting a Sandworm chase that will likely lead to them losing all their inventory.
Tips to Avoid the Sandworm in Dune Awakening
The Sandworm Shai-Hulud won't be gone for a long time and will eventually become active in Dune Awakening. So, you'll need to learn ways around it to avoid losing all your hard-earned resources and gear that you've collected by spending hours.
- Use Sandbikes: At the start of the game, players will need to invest hours in Dune Awakening before crafting their first Sandbike. While Sandbikes do attract the worm more than running, they are much faster. This means you'll be able to reach safe land quickly and will be able to outrun the Sandworm for much longer.
- Plan Your Travels: It's best to use the map and optimize your travel route. Make sure to choose the shortest route between two landmasses, minimizing the open desert you'll need to cover along the way. While this may make your trip a bit longer compared to choosing a direct route, it'll significantly minimize the risk of getting gobbled up by the Sandworm.
- Avoid Using Holtzman Shield: Using Dune's iconic Holtzman shield and other energy-powered equipment on the open sands can quickly trigger the Sandworm to surface. So, best to avoid these while you're out there collecting Spice or Flour Sand.
- Use Fast Travel: Players can talk to the Ornithopter Pilots at major tradeposts and fast travel to other locations, skipping the majority of the travel. While this does come at a cost, it's a quicker and safer option to reach far-off regions in Dune Awakening.
- No Shame in Turning Back: The Sandworm can sometimes be triggered sooner than expected, and it's safe to simply turn back to safety instead of gunning for your destination. Playing it safe is the key to keeping your inventory intact.
- Get an Ornithopter: Players will eventually need to craft their Ornithopter in the mid-to-late sections of the game. It'll allow you to soar through the skies, skipping traveling through the Sandworm-infested desert regions altogether.
