Silksong: Where to Use the Simple Key

The Simple Key is an item that existed in Hollow Knight as well, and its purpose was to open the various heavy gates inside Hallownest. Team Cherry reintroduces the item into their new game, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and it pretty much shares the same purpose as last time. However, finding the heavy gates in the game is a whole other story.

The gates are not marked on the map and have no indication, so players will have to explore every area until they find one. The guide below includes the location of a relatively early heavy gate that players can open using the key and explore a subsection of an area in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Where to Use the Simple Key in Silksong

After arriving at Bone Bottom, you will meet a bunch of NPCs, one of whom is selling a Simple Key for 500 Rosaries. Now, at this point, you will have 0 in your inventory, but don't worry, as this currency is quite common and a lot of enemies drop it. There is a good farming method next to the Bench in The Marrow, close to where you find Shakra, who sells the map. Once you have acquired the Simple Key, your next objective is to make your way to the Deep Docks. From The Marrow, start making your way to the bottom right, where you will soon come across metal platforms as well as lava underneath you.

Be careful not to drop into the lava, as it deals two mask damage instead of the one damage that spikes do.

The Path to The Heavy Gate

Keep going right, and eventually you will reach the Deep Docks and soon after, come across Shakra again, selling the map for the Deep Docks. Once you have acquired the map and familiarized yourself with the area's layout, proceed to the bottom right corner of the room you are in. Here, you will notice a sign showing a bench and pointing downward. Hit the switch and make your way down. Interact with the bench, and to your right, you can find the Forge Daughter who sells quite a few useful things, including a tool that reduces magma damage taken.

After you are done here, hit the second lever right before the NPC, and you can go into the room beneath, where you will have to fight a few enemies. Once these enemies are dealt with, head right, jump across to the other side, and you will find your very first Heavy Gate.
