Gathering of Heroes Quest Walkthrough
Before you begin the Gathering of Heroes quest, it’s a good idea to collect the Kaifeng Map at the city’s entrance and unlock the Boundary Stones near the southern entrance. These will help you move quickly during later parts of Chapter 2.
Meet Big Zhao and Enter the Revelry Hall

After arriving near Revelry Hall, speak with Big Zhao. He immediately admits he couldn’t obtain the official Assembly Ticket, but he has prepared a backup plan. Instead of entering through the main entrance, you’ll sneak inside by using the Boatman’s help. Once you board the boat, a series of cutscenes will play, taking you into the heart of the Heroes Assembly.
When you arrive, you’ll find several renowned Jianghu heroes gathering outside Revelry Hall, along with the Velvet Shade Disciples guarding the entrance. A confrontation breaks out when the Joyous Couple challenges the guards, but the situation escalates quickly. Then, the Ember of East (Wen Wuque) appears and instantly kills them with a single life coin.
After this intense introduction, you regain partial control and follow Big Zhao as he searches for a way inside without raising suspicion. Big Zhao’s plan is simple: steal the Velvet Shade Disciple uniforms and slip in unnoticed. After changing, your disguise fits perfectly and you can enter without being recognized.
However, as you approach the gate, a cautious disciple stops your group and questions why Big Zhao’s face is covered. Selecting “He has a ringworm infection” is the only answer that convinces the disciple to let you pass.
Inside the Velvet Shade’s Inner Chamber
Once inside, continue following Big Zhao through the large hall decorated for the Heroes Assembly. As you explore the corridors, you’ll eventually reach the third floor, where the private chamber of the Ember of East is located. A lengthy cutscene begins once you enter the chamber, introducing several important characters, including Lord Shi, the Song Dynasty representative, Dao Lord, and Shen Yilun, the Ever-Normal Granary official.
This is where the Gold-Making Vessel is revealed. The Ember of East demonstrates the vessel’s abilities, causing gold coins to pour out in a dazzling display. Suddenly, an explosion disrupts the ceremony.
Lord Shi falls to the ground and is saved by guards, while the vessel is snatched midair by an eagle. This sparks chaos among the heroes, each trying to claim the treasure for themselves.
The Illusion Fight

As the fighting intensifies, your character is suddenly trapped inside an illusion, appearing to hold the Gold-Making Vessel. This sequence marks the start of your combat section. Waves of enemies rush toward you from all directions, and you must defeat every group to progress. The arena is small, so positioning and dodging become important to stay alive.
When you finally break free from the illusion and leave the platform, enemies continue to surround you. Just as things begin to get overwhelming, Big Zhao arrives to help.
Soon after, Lord Shi questions the bag in your hands, only to find out that it does not contain the Gold-Making Vessel. This sets the stage for another major turning point in the quest.
The Prefect’s Deal and the Soulbreaker Pill
The Prefect of Kaifeng, the highest authority in the area, arrives immediately after the fight. He demands to inspect the Gold-Making Vessel. However, to everyone’s shock, the vessel has been swapped with a mere chamber pot. This casts suspicion directly on you and Big Zhao, as you both entered without an Assembly Ticket.
Big Zhao defends you, claiming that you had no opportunity to steal it, but the Prefect is unmoved. Instead, he offers a harsh ultimatum: Find the real thief in seven days, or die from the Soulbreaker Pill.
You are presented with three dialogue reactions: resisting, surrendering, or accepting the deal. Whatever you choose, the outcome remains the same: you are forced to swallow the Soulbreaker Pill.
Once you consume the pill, the Prefect takes Big Zhao aside for a private discussion.
Investigate For Clues

With the threat of the pill looming, you begin your investigation. First, approach a nearby balcony and eavesdrop on a tense conversation between Big Zhao and the Prefect. Doing so reveals a major twist: Big Zhao and the Prefect are actually brothers.
After the conversation ends and Big Zhao rejoins you, you can explore the building freely before continuing. When ready, head to the upper floor to investigate the area where the explosion occurred. On a table near the wall, you’ll discover a key clue: the Broken Mask. Pick it up and take it to Big Zhao.
He tells you he knows someone who can identify the mask: the Know-It-All of Kaifeng, who is rumored to be known as Master Pu.
Meet the Know-It-All

Next, fast-travel to the Entertainment District using the Boundary Stones you unlocked earlier. Big Zhao meets you there, and together you approach Master Pu, the Know-It-All of Kaifeng. Before he speaks, you must pick up a book lying on the ground near him titled “The Analects.”
After examining the Broken Mask, Master Pu explains that it belongs to a secret organization known as the Nine Mortal Ways. He cannot give you more details, but he does reveal how to reach them: by visiting someone known as the Ferryman. Ferryman can be found in the Forsaken Quarter, located southeast of Kaifeng.
Once the cutscene ends, the Gathering of Heroes quest officially comes to an end, setting you up for the next major storyline in Chapter 2.
