Players can check out a unique 100-person battle royale on Steam for free right now called Final Sentence. The unusual Steam game pits players against one each other as one would expect from the battle royale genre, but surviving Final Sentence requires good typing skills.

The battle royale genre is huge in gaming, and it shows no evidence of stopping. Even Battlefield 6 has a battle royale mode, with the potential to pit up to 100 players against each other. Final Sentence is similar in that regard, but that's about as far as the similarities go.

Not all RPGs provide players with relaxing experiences. For those brave enough, here are some of the most stressful ones out there.

Final Sentence Offers Unique Twist on Battle Royale

Final Sentence is an upcoming PC game that can see matches of up to 100 players, who must all type quickly and accurately in order to win the game. In each match, players will find themselves sitting in a dark room, with each player seated in front of a typewriter, a clock, and an executioner. When the round starts, players have to type out the lines given to them without making mistakes. Three mistakes in a segment puts Russian Roulette into play, with the executioner attempting a shot on the player. If the player survives, they can try again; if they're killed, it's game over. However, only the first player to complete all the text lines is crowned a winner, so typists have to be speedy to win, too. After a winner is crowned, all remaining competitors are executed.

The Final Sentence demo, which is free on Steam, is now available for players to check out, though interested gamers should be aware that it maxes out at 40 players. So far, matches seem to be decently populated as players check out the new PC game and see if their typing skills are up to the task. While there's no open communication allowed between players right now, that adds to the atmosphere, as all players can see and hear is the sound of their fellow competitors being eliminated.

While typing games aren't for everyone, they do have a decent following, particularly in the horror genre. A popular and classic example is The Typing of the Dead, which retooled rail shooter The House of the Dead into a typing game. Blood Typers, a recent horror game, follows a similar vein, with everything from movement to picking up items requiring typing. The slower, spooky Dead Letter Dept. Is also a recent typing game that tasks players with typing to survive. It remains to be seen if Final Sentence can carve out a niche for itself among titles like these.
