The Best War Games can exclusively reveal a new variant cover for the first issue of Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa. This early look at the upcoming NacelleVerse comic book arrives mere weeks ahead its September 2025 release.
Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa started out as a '90s animated series created by Ryan Brown, a renowned artist, comic book writer, and toy designer. Produced by Greengrass Productions and King World Productions, the show about mutated anthropomorphic bovines is among the biggest individual contributors to Brown's legacy, in addition to the artists work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa aired on ABC, as part of the network's Saturday morning cartoon lineup, between September 1992 and December 1993.

Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa #1 Will Have Jetpack Comics-Exclusive Variant Cover
In June 2025, Oni Press announced a comic book miniseries based on ABC's cult-classic Saturday morning show. The Best War Games can now reveal one of the variant covers for issue one, which will be exclusively available through Jetpack Comics. The retailer's cover features three anthropomorphic bovine cowboys posed against a parchment-style map, with a looping lasso partially obscuring the series' logo, positioned next to an issue badge.
The cover is illustrated by series creator Ryan Brown (inks) and Steve Lavigne (pencils and colors), two longtime collaborators on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. The upcoming comic book miniseries is being positioned as part of the NacelleVerse, a multimedia franchise from The Nacelle Company that began forming in 2024, after the California-based publisher started acquiring cult-classic 1980s properties such as RoboForce, Biker Mice from Mars, Sectaurs: Warriors of Symbion, and Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa itself. A new Moo Mesa animated series is also in the works, according to a July 2025 Variety report, which suggests the revival show is targeting a 2027 premiere.
The Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa comic is written by Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return writer Matt Hotson, with interior art by Marvel Unleashed artist Juan Gedeon. Oni Press lists the debut as a 32-page, $4.99 issue that will arrive with over half a dozen variant covers, including the newly unveiled Jetpack Comics exclusive. Jetpack is generally known for commissioning exclusive retailer variants of various comics, and has previously collaborated with Lavigne and other Mirage Studios alumni on TMNT covers and signings. The retailer operates in downtown Rochester, New Hampshire, and sells online nationwide.
The first issue of Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa is scheduled for release on September 17. Details about upcoming issues are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
