Over 17 years after launching the original Dead Space, series creator Glen Schofield wants to turn his sights back to the world of sci-fi horror, voicing an ambitious desire to pursue another sequel with Dead Space 4. While he was not involved in the development of the second or third installments in the iconic franchise, Schofield is not giving up hope on potentially returning to Dead Space with a future release.

Considered to be among the best action horror games of all time, the original Dead Space is beloved for its brutal combat, iconic Necromorphs, and surreal space setting. Despite impressive critical and commercial performances for the first two entries, Dead Space 3 was widely considered to be a step down from its predecessors, with many viewing the game as the reason for no further releases from the franchise. With many years having now passed following that game's mixed launch, audience hope for a revival of the Dead Space series with a brand-new sequel has been reignited thanks to fresh comments from the IP's original creator.

Will Dead Space 4 Ever Happen?

During an interview at the Gamescom Asia x Thailand Game Show in Bangkok, Glen Schofield was asked about the future of the Dead Space franchise, to which he responded optimistically about wanting to work on Dead Space 4. He quickly prefaced that he had already spoken to EA about the idea and was immediately met with rejection. However, the recent buyout of Electronic Arts has left Schofield feeling like the possibility of Dead Space 4 is still on the table, so much so that he is "already making calls" and trying to see if there is renewed interest in anyone buying the rights.

Even though the 2023 Dead Space remake received overwhelmingly positive reviews, the game's overall sales numbers fell well short of EA's expectations, leaving the franchise in its current state of limbo. Whether the new owners of the company will have a change of heart from their predecessors remains to be seen, though Schofield is showing no signs of giving up on his desire to make Dead Space 4 a reality.

Dead Space 2023 New Game Plus Beginning

One crucial hurdle for the enthusiastic ambitions of Glen Schofield is the current political controversy around the EA buyout, potentially spelling trouble for any new pitches for Dead Space 4 or any other upcoming projects from the company. As it stands, there is currently no official indication that the Dead Space series will be receiving any more remakes, let alone full sequels, any time soon.
