The Bofurin can be recognized by the Furin High School uniform which is a jacket that has a green and yellow pattern at the collar and cuff, the collar also sports an iconic button. The wearer is free to wear any shirt of choice underneath. Because of all the protection they provide the citizens of Makochi, the townsfolk are eternally grateful to them, providing the gang with free meals and showering them with appreciation. The protagonist of the series - Haruka Sakura, is initially shocked by all the praise and affection he is shown from the townsfolks, as he was more used to being made fun of by people because of his two tone hair color and different eye color.

But the Bofurin also have their own adversaries to deal with, the Shishitoren are one of them. The Shishitoren, led by their enigmatic leader Choji Tomiyama and their second in command - Jo Togame, are a gang of delinquents who only care about being the strongest. The hierarchy of the Bofurin is structured in a way that there is one leader - Hajime Umemiya and under the leader are the Four Heavenly Kings who are in charge of their own teams. The teams are further broken down with each four kings having two team vice-leaders for each heavenly king.
Each class also has its own Grade Captain and two-vice captains who are his right hands. The Four Heavenly Kings are Toma Hiragi who commands the Tamon team, Tasuku Tsubakino leads the Jikoku team, Takumi Momose leads the Zojo Unit and Saku Mizuki leads the Komoku team. The Four Heavenly Kings also each have advisors who are their second in command. Below them are the second years, who are Ren Kaji, Yuto Kusumi, Takeshi Enomoto and Wataru Shiina. Kaji is seen initially mentoring Sakura when he was chosen as grade captain.
