Wind Breaker: The True Strength of Jo Togame, Explained

How strong is the second in command of the Shishitoren?

In spite of that, there are several characters who are not given the recognition they deserve, considering the amount of mystery surrounding them. Their strength, whether mental or physical, is constantly overlooked on the show, and the characters are not given the same regard as others in Wind Breaker.

1 Kotoha Tachibana

The Wise Lady Of Bofurin

  • Debut: Season 1, Episode 1

Kotoha Tachibana is a young lady with brown hair and hazel-colored eyes who happens to work as a waitress at a restaurant in the Wind Breaker anime series. She was shown being rescued from a bunch of gangsters who were harassing her by Haruka Sakura early in the show.

She is often shown giving Sakura words of advice on his journey to the top and seems to be quite close to the Bofurin members. However, little is known about her past. Fans of the anime series are especially curious about her connection to Umemiya, Bofurin’s leader. Kotoha is not a character to overlook, considering the mystery that is her identity.

2 Kota Sako

A Talented Martial Artist

  • Debut: Season 1, Episode 4

Kota Sako, a member of Shishitoren, is another character who is underappreciated. Once the former childhood best friend of Toma Hiragi, Sako developed a deep resentment for Hiragi because he felt abandoned when Hiragi was sent to a different school from him when they were younger. Sako ended up coming face-to-face with Hiragi for the first time in a while in the battle of Bofurin versus Shishitoren.

Even though Sako showed impressive martial arts skills in his fight against Hiragi, he faded from the spotlight soon after. Fans underrate him because he lost control of his emotions on the battlefield and ultimately the fight. However, with such speed and precision, Sako definitely deserves more screen time.

3 Mitsuki Kiryu

The Ladies’ Man

  • Debut: Season 1, Episode 2

Due to his unique pink hair, piercings, and gentlemanly behavior, Mitsuki Kiryu, a male first-year student of Bofurin’s Vaisravana unit, is usually looked down upon by his opponents for being too feminine. Notwithstanding, Kiryu is shown to have a kind demeanor and is always seen sporting a slight smile in every situation.

Although little is revealed about his character, Kiryu is known to possess frightening skills in combat, as seen when his opponent, Renji Kaga, a member of Keel, passed out from one “gentle” tap from Kiryu. Mitsuki is another underrated character who deserves more attention in the anime series.

4 Taiga Tsugeura

“What's Your Virtue?”

  • Debut: Season 1; Episode 2

With his characteristic orange hair, Taiga Tsugeura is a sporty, loud, and optimistic teenager who is considered to be one of the strongest first-year students at Furin High. He is very open to making new friends and has a habit of asking acquaintances what their virtue is. This helps him form an impression of each person he meets.

Tsugeura is another character that has not been sufficiently talked about or given adequate attention in the anime series. He is an energetic character and always seems to be in a playful mood, but turns serious when the situation calls for it, such as in a fight.

5 Akihiko Nirei

The Memory Guru Of Furin High

  • Debut: Season 1, Episode 2

Akihiko Nirei is a quirky character in the Wind Breaker anime series who joined Furin High after being saved by a Bofurin member when being bullied as a child. Nirei is one character who is looked down upon because of his lack of strength in a world full of fighters.

These are some of the best manhwa Wind Breaker fans would appreciate.

Despite that, Nirei compensates for his lack of physical strength with his remarkable memory. He is dedicated to memorizing details about every student, fighter, or gang worthy of note in the whole town of Makochi. Nirei does this with the hope that he might one day be strong as well. His talent makes him a valuable character that should not be as underrated as he is.

6 Kyotaro Sugishita

Bofurin’s Grumpy Soldier

  • Debut: Season 1; Episode 3

This first-year student at Furin High School is under the Vaisravana unit and is a fiercely loyal follower of Umemiya, Bofurin’s cheerful leader. He is seen on occasion starting fights, consequences be damned, as long as he thinks he is in the right, and many of these fights are usually related to Sakura.

Even though Sugishita’s nonchalant attitude and gruff demeanor in most situations can be off-putting, his strength, which has been showcased in several battles, and loyalty prove that there is more to him than what meets the eye. Yet, apart from his overwhelming strength and grumpy exterior, he remains largely overlooked by fans, with his personality left largely unexplored.

7 Toma Hiragi

A Ruthless King In Battle

  • Debut: Season 1, Episode 1

As one of the Four Heavenly Kings, Umemiya’s second-in-command, and the Commander of the Vaisravana Unit of Bofurin, Toma Hiragi is a character with many titles. He is respected greatly by his subordinates in the anime series and is constantly seen taking a pill or two due to his frequent stomachaches caused when his blood pressure rises too high.

Yes, Hiragi is given a generous amount of screen time. However, he is only shown in relation to other people. His growth process is not talked about much, his progress is not followed, and for a character as strong and ruthless as he is, as seen in his battle against Sako, he is not mentioned enough.

8 Jo Togame

The Lion Head Team’s Stronghold

  • Debut: Season 1, Episode 3

Having the appearance of a monk with his wooden slippers and gray attire, Jo Togame served as a major stronghold in the Lion Head team with great physical strength, which could possibly be on par with that of Umemiya, Bofurin’s leader, and Choji, Shishitoren’s leader.

The anime series has only shown Togame in battle once, and that was in his fight against Sakura. Though Togame lost, it was seen that it was not from a lack of skills but from a resignation as he realized more about himself in the battle. More conversations about this strong fighter will certainly be well-received.
