Winnie The Pooh: Bood and Honey was first announced in May 2022 and planned for an October release the same year. However, the concept of Winnie the Pooh reimagined in a bizarre horror plot drew far more eyes than expected to the project, prompting a pivot to a 2023 theatrical release. While the indie film was released to a veritable lashing from critics, there was still a lot of publicity and interest in the horror movie from some die-hard fans of the genre, who generally don’t go along with critics, as the genre’s appeal doesn’t lend itself to that sort of analysis.

A long-awaited horror movie sequel received its most significant update from the director since a tentative announcement was made last year.
After starting a hilarious new horror trend with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the creators behind the eerie reimagining want to make another splash with the project for the holiday season by bringing Blood and Honey to a broader audience. Peacock announced it added Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey by sharing a short teaser for the film alongside an announcement reading, “They left the Hundred Acre Wood and entered your nightmares. #WinnieThePooh: Blood and Honey is streaming now on Peacock.” The announcement comes a week before Halloween day proper, giving fans of horror and casual users of Peacock's service ample time to settle on it.
While quite a few fans wondered how to watch Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey after its theatrical release, it was certainly not going to be on the Disney-owned Disney Plus or Hulu, as the company wouldn’t want to lend a platform to the grim take on what was their IP until it entered the public domain. This allowed the indie project to be produced despite Disney being famously litigious about such projects that could negatively impact the child-friendly image of one of their characters. It should be noted that while Winnie the Pooh and several of his companions entered the domain, elements introduced by Disney, like Pooh's red shirt, remain trademarked by the House of Mouse.
The Blood and Honey filmmakers are eying a Bambi horror remake and a similarly themed project based on Peter Pan, IPs commonly associated with Disney.
